I don't think thats true. Favre has embraced Rodgers more this season than last, so I'm sure he has helped, but you can't really learn from watching Favre because his form is worse than Grossman's. Favre has a freak natural talent and Rodgers will never be able to play the game the same style as Favre does. Favre is the ultimate gunslinging, throw off your back foot, throw across the field into double coverage guy, and I don't think you can learn anything good by watching him, unless you have the same ability to do all those things and have success.

There is more to being a quarterback than just how you throw. I'm sure Rodgers has learned a lot about film study, game preparation, defense recognition, etc. Most of the guys that learn from Maddux don't pitch like him. They learn other aspects of the game by watching.

Looking at his stats the last two years it's pretty clear defense recognition isn't a strength Favre has at this point in his career.

It was been widely reported up here in Wisconsin that Favre this season did spend a lot more time in game prep and watching film than he has in the past, so maybe he had an influence there. However, Favre has also said he is not Rodgers mentor and it is not his job to teach Rodgers, it's the coaches jobs.

Favre has also been running for his life the past two years. He's being pressured on almost every play. So while he may know what coverage the defense is in, being pressured like that is bound to lead to mistakes and errant throws. But I do see your point. If I'm in possibly the last year of my career, I wouldn't want to be a babysitter either.

QB's don't mentor other QB's, unless it's their only reason for being on the team.

Guys will often say the right thing for the sake of keeping the peace, but a young QB's future relies on his relationship with the coaching staff, not another QB who is trying to make a living being a QB.

Unfortunatly, I was forced to watch every Packer game this year (often while watching the Bears at the same time, since I didn't miss a Bears game), and the Packer O-Line was not bad at all. People make a huge deal about the 3 rookies, but they all played quite well, and Favre had ample time to make plays. Now they certainly had a few bad games, but overall the Packer o-line was above average pass blocking, and average in run blovking.

The O-line's pass blocking was exceptional this year. The run blocking even improved this year. I'm pretty content with how our offensive line will be in the next few years.

And the Randy Moss trade rumors are swirling with Green Bay mentioned as a team the Raiders will contact. I guess the Packers' front office is hoping that Moss will regain the form he had in Minnesota and this would be a move that would definitely make Favre come back to the Packers for next season. Trades can't take place until March 1st, I believe, so it should be interesting to see what takes place.

If Mike Brown isn't coming back we will need to add a safety. I know Samuel from New England is a free agent. Could Manning Jr make a good safety? If one of our corners could make the switch we could try to bring in a #1 CB like Nate Clements. Or we could always try to pick up a safety in a trade for Thomas Jones or Wale.

As CalRaisin said, Brown will be back with the Bears. He IS the heart and soul of the defense. I know Urlacher and Harris get the publicity and the hype---rightfully so----but the Bears D started going downhill right after Brown was lost for the season. Even tho he can't be counted to stay healthy for a full yr, Brown HAS to be brought back, nonetheless, he is too vital to the Bears D success. I would like to add QUALITY and depth this offseason. I would like the Bears to pick up a very good saftey in FA---perhaps Samuels---and pick up a safety in the draft---Mohawk kid from Notre Dame--to add with Brown and Manning (not the Manning, Jr)

However priority number 1 is locking up Briggs and T. Harris and trying to reach a reasonable deal with Vasher. I would also like to see them draft at least one of the top offensive linemen in this draft.

On Briggs, well see what Angelo thinks of Briggs and his future in Chicago. And I personally think Briggs will be franchise for 2007 season, and the Bears are going to draft his replacement (Alexander from Oklahoma or Everett from Florida could be likely candidates) and let Briggs leave after the 07 season. On Harris, he is the Bears version of Carlos Zambrano. Very colorful character, arguable the best of what they did, and both should look to command top dollar. I expect the Bears to extended him THIS offseason. And on a side note, I would like to see Dvorcek given a chance to play next yr.

Colt Brennan withdraws from the 2007 draft.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2734347

Excellent decision. He will likely be in or near the top five Heisman candidates preseason and should be guaranteed a first round selection next year if he repeats his numbers.

I think that's highly debatable. Brohm, Ainge, Henne, and Booty are all likely to go ahead of him. The last spread QB taken in the first round was Losman and he's been very mediocre in the pros, not leading a lot of credence to spread offense QB's translating their collegiate success to the pro game.

Drew Brees is doing ok so far.

So it looks like the Saints have the #25 pick in the 1st round. I'm hoping they get Patrick Willis, the highest rated ILB in the draft. He is expected to go near the end of the draft. Saints like to draft local people as well, and Willis played at Ole Miss. Saints desperately need some Defense and some RUSH defense in particular.

Here's some great clips of him...check out the first in particular, it's one of the best hits I've ever seen. Saw it live and it was incredible.

A lot will depend on team needs (how many QBs go in the first round) and who declares/has a good season.

Assuming Brennan repeats, he'll be behind Brohm for sure. Henne and Ainge are potentially susceptible to having less than standout years. Henne I'm not completely sold on (a lot of that offense seems to be Mike Hart) and Ainge will be without a true threat at receiver for the early portion of the year with our three top receivers leaving and the current crop talented but all with a year or less of experience. Also, I don't think its a guarantee Booty leaves early.

Brennan could be anywhere from the second to the fifth QB taken.

He's probably the best LB not talked about nationally. Not a lot media coverage on him even though he might be the best LB in the draft (if I'm not forgetting somebody).

If he's not expected to go until near the end of the draft, why would the Saints waste a first round pick on him? :D

How does that work? Out of 32 teams, the 2nd seed in one conference picks before 7 other teams?

Posted

I think they actually pick 30th as the conference championship game loser with the worse record. Nfl.com shows them 25th, but with an asterisk indicating that the actual position depends on the playoffs.

EDIT: Actually, I think they're 27th. If I'd read the explanation at the top of the page I would have seen that playoff teams other than the Super Bowl teams stay in order based on record. They'd fall behind the other 10-6 teams because they advanced farther, but they're still ahead of teams with better regular season records.

1-20 are non-playoff teams. 21-24 are the teams knocked out in the first round. 25-28 are the divisional round losers. 29 and 30 are conference championship losers. And 31-32 are the Super Bowl teams.

The Saints are, then, either 29 or 30 it seems.

Would they not be behind the losers in the divisional round, even if they have a worse record? It seems they should be 29 because they have a worse record than the Pats.

I'd really like the Rams to get him. Beyond his obvious athletic abilities, he seems like a great guy in the ESPN Magazine article I read.
