Although I'm praying for him, I was just thinking, on account of his health, how great that would be if Hendry's physican suggested he quit his position as Cub GM. I really am not familiar with the procedure for an angioplasty, and I don't know how serious of a condition it is, but in order to eliminate a lot of stress in his life-- maybe he should step down. If this was to happen, who would you like to see as the next Cubs GM? If the Trib was willing to shell out the money (and the White Sox were willing to let him go), I really would like to see Kenny Williams as our next GM. What do y'all think?

Do you chase ambulances too?

Simple procedure performed thousands of times a day. The only change will be less doughnuts.

No thank you to Kenny Williams. He's the lucky version of Hendry. It's bound to run out some time.

Wow. You're not biased or anything. I mean, it's not like he won a World Series.

Hopefully you're correct on the better nutrition.

It's seemed to me that Hendry has gained a fair bit of weight particularly over the past two years, and if he's been (as one report had it) living off coffee and getting zero sleep during the Winter Meetings, he got off pretty easy with angio.

This is a Clinton-type heart warning. I hope Hendry got the message and takes the opportunity to make some lifestyle changes. (Heck, I could stand eating less crap myself!)

As to your actual question, I'd agree with DePo as a good GM.

He totally caused his pitchers to have freakishly good postseasons. Saying he's a lucky version of Hendry is an overstatement. He is not a good GM, and I would not be happy if he took over for Hendry.

I don't recall them sniffing the playoffs last year, though?

They did win 90 games. It's not their fault they played in the best division in baseball. I hate defending the White Sox.

Jim just needs to eat Subway a little more often and get an elliptical crosstrainer in his office. He's clearly not been taking care of himself; hopefully he will now.

Chris Antonetti or Paul DePodesta

There are no other options.

DePodesta?

The man that brought LA its second worst season since moving the franchise there in 1958?

I understand why people are intrigued by him, but he didn't exactly perform all that well in LA.

To say there are no other options is pretty shortsighted.

You are correct, but you have to realize he's the one person from Moneyball currently not a GM, so a lot of people see him as the only option. If you're going to take someone just because they're affiliated with the A's organization, at least pick David Forst.

Kenny Williams.

I like everything about him; not afraid to take risks, does the most with the given payroll that he gets, like his attitude, etc.

But I don't think there's a chance in hell that he would come to the Northside.

He also brought the Dodgers to the playoffs in a season when no one thought they had a chance. Two years doesn't seem like the best way to judge a GM.

I'm not against him per se, yet I think he gets too much hype without much to back it up with.

I'm sure there are other good options out there besides Depo.

Yeah Jim is so in love with his GM job that he finalized a deal while hooked up to an EKG machine. I'm sure he's going to be convinced to step down.

GARY HUGHES: I think the five tools are five physical tools. I don’t see where plate discipline becomes a tool.

GARY HUGHES: Is that what DIPS is? Tobacco? (Laughter)

ALAN SCHWARZ: That gets us to this question--do you guys think Triple-A stats can predict player performance in the majors?

GARY HUGHES: I don't know. I can't answer that. That's not my thing.
