I actually predicted Texas to beat USC last year.(I am not going to find it from last years post) Strangly enough I think that USC was a substantially better team. Vince Young just had a remarkable ability to win games almost single handily.

I too picked Texas. USC probably did have a better all around team, but I just love Vince Young. He doesn't necessarily put up great passing stats (though last year he was #3 in passer rating in the NCAA), but he wins. His Rose Bowl game was one of the best performances I've ever seen from an athlete in that big of a situation.

That's why I really liked him this year in the NFL draft. Look at this year even - that team was awful last year, and even though his passer rating is pretty lousy, they've won 5 of the 9 games he started. I think he'll make several Pro Bowls before his career is through.

I really dont care of follow pro football enough to make any judgements on his pro career. He does seem to have that I am going to win this game at all costs level that he can achieve. Similar to guys like Micheal Jordan or John Elway.

John Elway? He was in the playoffs like 8 times and lost 3 super bowls before winning two of them. Jordan, can't disagree there.

Elway carried 3 not very good Broncos teams to the Super Bowl though.

Some guys just have that "it". Vince Young single handedly beat Ohio State, Oklahoma State and USC. He took over those games in a way that only the transcendent athletes of our generation have done. I don't know how that will translate to the pros, but I sure as hell enjoyed watching him in college.

I'm suprised the Badgers are 'dogs to the hogs.

I think it'll be a close W for the Badgers :(

I'm surprised they aren't bigger dogs and fully expect Arkasas to win :(

Elway single handedly beat Cal to bring Stanford to their first bowl in years.....oh, wait...what's this...

Regarding the coach's poll:

When you think about it, is there much of anybody LESS qualified to rank the top 25 teams than a division 1 football coach? I mean, let's be realistic. What coach is going to ever see anything on the teams that are not either on the schedule or in the conference? When do they have time? What criteria would they have, other than to push their own conference, and, by proxy, their own team?

One of the reasons I wasn't high on Young in the draft is because I didn't think his style would translate well to the pro level. So far, yes I know it's early, he's proving me wrong. Time will tell though.

How bout a voting body of Craig James, Mark May, and Lou Holtz?

Herbstreit was talking about that yesterday. Both Tressel and Meyer said they really hadn't seen the other teams play. I am sure that is the same for most coaches and teams not in their conference/on their schedule. Weis has said in the past that many coaches just have their assistants do the rankings. The coaches poll is a joke.

Just another reason for a playoff. Except of course they would probably be picking playoff teams based on the same flawed coaches poll. The difference would be that the 9th best team or the 17th in a 16 team playoff doesnt really have a arguement they should be fighting for the NC. They would just be upset that they are out the money.

Not really "Bowl" related but it is college related. Now, first off im not saying hes not deserving of this award but it is another peculiar happening in college football. What college football....peculiar, no way. No, im not taking this seriously, just having some fun with it.

James Laurinaitis won the Bronko Nagurski Trophy for best defensive player of the year. No surprise, hes a great LB, even more impressive he is a true sophmore. But, he didnt win the award for the best defensive player in his own conference. I mean how can he win this award and not even win it in his own conference? Im sure i can get some SEC/Florida fans to agree with me on this one right? 8-)

It's pretty ridiculous that the men who get paid for having highly ranked teams play a significant role of determining how teams are ranked.

Or you could just get rid of the coaches poll and bring back the AP poll into the BCS formula.

Except for the fact the AP removed themselves from the BCS, they wanted nothing to do with that sham.

On a side note, Notre Dame is the most overated team in the country. People say the Badgers didn't play anybody, other than Michigan, which they lost to. Notre Dame, other than Michigan and USC, didn't really play anyone either. And they got creamed by Michigan at home and slaughtered by USC while the Badgers hung tough on the road at Michigan until the 4th quarter and were actually leading at halftime.

Wisconsin and ND are seen by most people as approx. the same, so I'm not sure where you're going with this argument.

If by "most people" you mean "Notre Dame fans," then yes, they're seen as about the same.

Well, then that makes his argument even worse. If ND is seen as worse than Wisconsin, then how they are over-rated if Wisconsin isn't also? I actually believe people think Wisconsin is a little better than ND, but I couldn't completely prove that, so that's why I didn't take the statement to that level, even though it would have made my case better.

I don't think we'll know how good Wisconsin is until the bowl game because their schedule sucked this year (no OSU) and they played nobody OOC. I don't think it's possible to call Wisconsin underrated or overrated at the moment.

Posted
ND can't be overrated because everyone is constantly talking about how overrated they are. They are the least taken-seriously top-15 team in the country including Boise State. I'm not sure how anyone can think there is any real respect for ND right now nationwide because there isn't.
