"It’s been a pretty interesting couple of days watching these Bears. It might actually be fun if we didn’t have to play them. They’re really an exciting team to watch. They’re extremely good at everything. I don’t see any weaknesses at all in this team. On top of all their skill and their athleticism and playmaking ability, they’re tough, a very physical team. I think [general manager] Jerry Angelo and [head coach] Lovie [smith] have done a tremendous job putting together this group of talented players, this staff, and everything else. They play extremely well together. They’re really pretty good in everything.

“Defensively, they pretty much set the standard in the league. They don’t give up many points, they’re so far ahead of everybody else on third down, it’s really not even competitive. They’re good against the run. They turn the ball over. They make a lot of big plays. They’re a good blitzing team. They’re a good coverage team. They play man. They play zone. They pretty much do it all and do it well. But the big thing they do is turn the ball over and produce points on the defensive side of the ball, which also carries into the special teams –- they’ve had returns for touchdowns, they’ve recovered 3-4 fumbles on the coverage teams and basically lead the league in special teams. They’re very good there. [Punter Brad] Maynard does an excellent job, hardly any of his punts get returned and the ones that do don’t go very far. They cover well, they return well. Robbie [Gould] hasn’t missed a field goal or extra point kick this year, so they’re pretty solid there.

“Offensively, they have a real good offensive line, two good running backs, the quarterback has had probably as many 100-rating days as any quarterback we’ve faced, other than [Peyton] Manning. Receivers are very skilled, they have a bunch of them. The tight end [Desmond Clark] is a very talented player. So they’re really good across the board. They do a good job with their offensive scheme, the running game, play-action. Third down, they can tighten it down, they can spread you out. They can throw it, they can run it, they can throw it deep. So they’re obviously one of the top teams in the league and deserve to be. They’re very good at every single thing they do.

“You know, we’re just going to have to do a good job this week in all three phases of the game. It’s going to have to be a good complementary game. I don’t think this is a team where you can take one thing away or just concentrate on one thing. They’re too good at everything. We’re going to need a total team effort, and everybody is going to really have to be on top of everything against this football team. They’re very good.”

What?

I second that

I'm sure that he was talking about the Giants game.

Too bad Soul wasn't.

To be technically correct the Jets game was 'this week' not 'last week'. The week starts on Sunday. I forgot about the Jets game since I didn't get to watch it. FWIW the Bears are better off playing a little conservative. Grossman is still a little inexperienced but you have to continue to play him. Rivers had 2 full seasons to practice while Grossman spent those seasons rehabbing.

Does he do this every week in his presser? This is the same exact thing Charlie Weis did when they played Michigan. He stole this 'run through' from Bill.

I have no idea. Just saw it in the Boston Globe.

Snip

And yet you know that this whole time he has an all-out plan to completely render the offense, defense and special teams useless.

I still remember when he played Bledsoe in Buffalo and would drop everyone back into coverage and rush no one. Bledsoe would get so confused and end up throwing the ball up for grabs.

The Chargers are definitely a top team, but it's interesting how ESPN's power rankings cite their big comebacks as a reason to put them at the top, but Carucci on nfl.com says that needing such big comebacks in order to win is why he still hasn't put SD at the top. (They're at number four, behind Baltimore.)

Oh yea, and if you don't feel like checking that link, it also put the Bears back at the top where they belong.

RMJ just got 1 game..... Nice timing huh? They took all this time

for a decision, then annouced right before one of the biggest games of the year. Bite my pole NFL front office.

You know what I'm really getting pissed at with regards to the Chargers, how all the announcers keep acting like Merriman is injured. HE WAS CAUGHT DOING STEROIDS. Holy crap, they are giving him a free pass, acting like he is taking the 4 games off. Way to set a good example.

We all KNOW the Bears are not the "Goldne Boys" of the NFL. In fact you can make the case that the Bears are the Pistons of the NFL, in that the Bears do anything opposite of what the NFL is trying tobuild around. The NFL want more offense, the Bears provide stiff defense, etc, etc. And because of that....the Bears get no respect until the WIN the Super Bowl.

Look, I don't care what the pundits say here are the facts:

1: The Bears are easily Top 2 team in the NFL (arguably the best team in the NFL).

2: Rex Grossman is a very solid QB. Now while hemay never be a Peyton Manning type dominating QB, or a Mama's Boy like Phillip Rivers, Rex Grossman will be as important to the Bears as Manning is to the Colts, and Rivers is the Chargers.

3: I believe the Bears will beat the Pats.

Why the hell was Manning Jr suspended? Does the league suspend every player who gets arrested? Thats nuts. Why wasn't Tank Johnson suspended for being arrested multiple times over the offseason? Great timing, too. They waited 12 weeks, but couldn't wait till we play Minnesota next week?

As a Colts fan, I have to disagree with the assertion that Grossman is as important to the Bears as Manning is to the Colts. Grossman is what-the difference between 10-6 and 14-2? Manning is the difference between 14-2 and 4-12-it's simply amazing how much different the team would be without him. I do believe the Rivers comparison is apt though, and I do agree that the Bears are maybe not getting the respect they deserve right now (most teams aren't-it seems like the media is trying to say why every team won't win the Super Bowl right now, instead of trying to say why one team would) and that they will get more respect if they beat the Pats.

The media seems to be more focused on bitching about the league than enjoying the great games and great teams. It's the same as in baseball, crying out for the good ole days.

The world will be a better place when all the baby boomers stop setting the agenda.

Yes, I didn't even think it was shady until I heard Urlacher's reaction and then it made sense. Anything to make life easy for Brady these days :)

In addition to Manning Jr. being out, Wesley is questionable with a knee injury, Clark is probable with a foot injury, and Thomas Jones is probably with a groin injury.

nice, we win the 2nd game in NY and we drop a spot in the ESPN Power Rankings.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/powerranking

I really cant argue with the rankings because I personally feel we would lose to the Colts and Chargers if we played them this Sunday.

Why do you think that? The Colts just got beat by a team worse than us, and SD has 2 losses.
