I heard that Jerry Crasnick is reporting that the Braves are close to a deal that would bring Jake Peavy, and send Marcus Giles, Horacio Ramirez and Jarrod Saltalamacchia to the Padres. I read this on MLBTraderumors, but if Crasnick said it, it may have some validity.

Wow. I would think you could get more for Peavy.

I think that the Braves are actually giving up quite a bit.

Marcus Giles had a bad year last year. He also gets injured quite often. Salty is a good prospect, but useless for the Braves except as a trading chip. Horacio Ramirez is also another injury prone player. He has some potential, but doing that trade from the Braves perspective is a no brainer.

I always question moving a proven number 1 starter under age 26. I'm not so sure there is such a thing as asking for too much for a player like that.

Peavy also took a large step back last year.

Would you even start to consider moving Z for that package? Peavy was one of the top preseason picks for NL Cy Young.

Even with Peavy's off-year, I would take him over every other rumored pitcher discussed on these boards, including Scmidt, Zito, or Matsuzaka.

This is a steal for the Braves if true.

I have a hard time believing the Padres would get rid of Peavy but you never know these days.

Peavy's health is a concern. The padres value Chris Young more than they do with Peavy.

I wouldn't even dream of giving up Z for those three guys.

And don't forget they're thinking about bringing Glavine back right?

I thought I heard (shortly after hearing the rumors of Glavine going back to Atl) that Glavine had re-signed with the Mets. Maybe I just heard that he was close to re-signing?

Yes, but you need more than 1 good pitcher to win and I honestly doubt they value Young over Peavy.

It's a great move for the Braves. Salty is blocked by McCann, they are looking to move Giles anyway, and Peavy easily makes Ramirez expendable.

I'm trying to see it from the Padres point of view, and I'm having a hard time. Salty isn't major league ready. Ramirez isn't anything spectacular. Giles is good, but at the price of Peavy...I'm not sure.

Who is the one being traded?

That's some of the worst logic I've ever seen.

He's right. It's terrible logic. You can't say he's valued less than Young just because there are rumors that Peavy is about to be traded, aside from the fact that there are a million other factors at play.

Supposedly traded. It's also very possible that Peavy had an offyear due to the World Baseball Classic. I would be extremely upset if I was a Padres fan and ended up with Horacio Ramirez who has been injured a lot more than Peavy has to take his place. This is a really good deal for the Braves and a terrible one for the Padres IMO and that's why I find this trade to be doubtful.

First off, no one is being traded. Not yet, anyway. This is all speculation and rumor.

Secondovely (to quote David Cross) just because Peavy is being traded doesn't mean the Padres value him less, maybe it means that they want Saltamacchia, Giles and Ramirez, but the Braves would rather have Peavy than Young.

Anyway, in conclusion, yes, it was bad logic.
