Screw you, Cubs.

The only positive I see is that bringing a "big name" manager gives me the impression that the Cubs want to win now. I like that mentality. I reserve judgment until I see what kind of off-season we have. If we get a big name pitcher (Zito), and a big bat (C. Lee or Soriano), I like our chances.

Time will tell.

I thought that Baker was a big name manager and he didn't bring much to the table.

I think he brought lots to the table. Everytime I'd see him going into the ballpark on the road, he had food with him.

You have a point that I can't really argue. However, I was looking at it more from the Girardi (less experience) vs. Piniella (seasoned manager).

At least now we'll have a manager who gets pissed off like we do when the Cubs lose. When losing a horrible game, Dusty would just shrug his shoulders....Lou trashes the clubhouse. Sweet Lou might be a bit overkill at times, but at least it's transparent that he actually gives a damn.

Rothschild? Unbelievable. I don't like the Piniella signing, but the fact that Rothschild is coming back is just inexcusable. What the hell has he done to earn another contract from the Cubs?

Maybe he was the one who smashed Sosa's boom box... :-k

It wouldn't be the only thing he has destroyed in Chicago.

My thoughts exactly...good gosh I can't take my eyes off your sig.

My thinking exactly. I think JH is hoping the 2nd time is a charm. I'm not as optimistic, but I'll hold my judgement at least for now.

Also: it's now breaking news on ESPN news.

I don't understand why people have to distroy things to prove they care.

They don't. I said it's overkill. But I always know that I played better under coaches who were more fired up than those that were more subdued. Might just be my style.

I don't like the move but I will give Piniella a chance to do his job. Hopefully Piniella has more of the track record with the Reds and Mariners than with the D-Rays.

I'm dumbfounded Rothschild is back. Its completely inexcusable for him to be re-hired. With the arm problems of the Cubs the past 3 years under Rothschild's tenure and Piniella's reputation as someone who rides his pitchers. I'm very scared for the health of the staff.

When Aramis Ramirez is up at the plate(a contact hitter who doesn't strike out alot) with a 3-1 count with a runner at first and 1 out facing a sinkerball pitcher, and you are screaming at the TV for a hit and run, then

Ramirez grounds into a DP....you can't help but destroying something.

As you know OMC, every player is different and is motivated differently. Dusty cared, he just showed it in another way.

When Dusty cared, he threw a little "crazy" around... :)

What you do doesn't effect the Cubs. What Lou does will effect them.

I wonder if the low dollar figure per year is because Piniella has some sort of out clause that allows him to go to the Yankees. I hope it's not the case.

I'm indifferent to Piniella's hiring. I hope Henrdy surrounds him with enough talent that Piniella's managerial flaws are hidden.

Time to get some good players.

And Ramirez is first on the list!

did anyone read the fireLou blog already out there?

While I think the premise of a "fire Lou" site is redicolous this early,

the "mock interview" litterally made me spit pepsi on my monitor.

PINIELLA: I like my soup hot, my stool loose, my ballplayers tough, and my prostate small, God damnit!

I would have no problem with an out clause.

Torre might be done after 2007. If the Cubs don't win big in 2007, there's no justification to keep Hendry around, and with Hendry gone, there would be no reason to keep Lou around for the new GM.

On the other hand, if things go really well for Lou in Chicago, I would have to imagine he'd want to stay.

Wow...I just laughed in the middle of an "Attorney Ethics" seminar. Damn.

PINIELLA: Like that Furcal fella that you didn't get over here. That boy's got some brass ones. Beating his wife and drinking and driving like that. That's a man's man!

I have to stop.....I'm gonna choke to death.

True, but I like Piniella and Piniella's mentality better than Baker's. And we didn't raise the payroll to $115 mil or have a president say "it's time to win the world series" last time either. There's a much higher sense of wanting to win, and you can feel it if you listen to the radio or press conferences. .
