Hey SSR, how many teams the Mountain West will get in the tourney? I would think BYU, UNLV, and Air Force are in while San Diego State has a decent shot.

oh by the way duke lost at home to maryland, and anytime someone comes in and beats duke in front of those loser fans in cameron, it's fun to enjoy it.

Duke will finish .500 in conference if/when UNC beats them on Sunday. Luckily for them they played a strong out-of-conference schedule.

BTW, Duke's a 5 in Bracketology. Which is complete crap.

Duke's #14 in the polls, which is also complete crap.

Directly after being unranked. That was pretty odd.

Mini rant-Texas gets a big win vs A&M and on ESPN they just show A&M shots the whole time. You'd think they'd show something Texas did since they only scored 98 points or so.

Well, the highlights of that game were Acie Law single handedly keeping them in it. I'd be more upset if they didn't show the shots that Law hit.

It just doesn't have to be all or nothing though. At least give the Texas kids a highlight or 2.

John Anderson pointed out on SportsCenter that going into last night's game at Cameron, both Maryland and Duke were 22-7 overall with an 8-6 ACC record; Duke had the #4 SOS while Maryland's was #10; Duke had won 4 straight and Maryland 5 in a row. Yet in the ESPN/USAToday poll, Duke was #14, while Maryland was unranked.

Obviously Duke was overrated (what else is new?), but how was Maryland unranked? Texas (#15, 21-7), Oregon (#18, 22-7), Louisville (#19, 21-8), Marquette (#21, 22-8), Virginia Tech (#22, 20-8), Vandy (#23, 19-9), USC (#24, 21-8), and Virginia (#25, 19-8) all were ranked, had similar or worse records than Maryland and had lower RPIs. Good thing the rankings don't mean anything... Maryland actually has a shot at a 3-seed as long as they beat NC State in their last regular season ACC game and then have a solid showing the the ACC tourney - which is actually in Tampa this year, so UNC and Duke don't get to play home games like they usually do in this event.

This has been my big beef regarding football because the polls do matter there. I agree, it doesn't matter in college hoops, thank God.

I wouldn't try and argue that the Big 10 is having a great year, but it seems to odd to argue it's down. I'd say the same thing about the Big XII. The Big East I would argue is down with no real upper echelon team and not great depth when you consider it's a 16 team league. The SEC is down with 2 legit teams, and 2 that are barely removed from the bubble. Pac 10 and ACC are having great years.

I definitely disagree here. Any conference that will get anywhere from 7-9 teams into the tournament is not having a down year. They may not have any number 1 seeds, but they have upper echelon teams in Pitt and Georgetown. That conference has had as many as 11 or 12 different teams receiving significant votes this year (not just talking 1 or 2 votes), and that's pretty impressive considering they all have to play each other. It's the same reason you're not seeing complete domination in the ACC this year as well. Both conferences are stacked pretty much top to bottom. They may not be as good as last year, but the Big East is definitely a monster of a conference.

Again, it'll be revenge from 2 years ago. :D

UCLA plays Washington State tonight, if they win, they win the Pac-10. WSU is the only team left with a chance to stake a claim to the Pac-10 regular season title. I think it's amusing that the Pac-10 is coming down to a game in Pullman (of course, it came down to a game in Berkeley between UCLA and Cal last year).

I don't think they are having a great year this year. UNC has underachieved, Duke is horribly overrated, I do like Maryland, Florida State is doing what they always do take top 100 players and go sub .450 in conference, Georgia Tech is way too young to be dangerous, Wake Forest quit fielding a team after CP3 left, BC and Clemson started great but have limped to the finish, Now the Virginia schools have done really awesome, and I am not sure if NC State or Miami even have teams. While good the Pac-10 is clearly the best league. I also like the Big East better. The ACC looks good because Carolina and Duke have not played up to expectations or were very overrated.

Conference RPI says ACC is the best conference. And despite your digs at NC St and Miami, they're a lot better than the dregs of the Pac 10 (Arizona St and Oregon St).

Oh by the way if BC and Clemson have limped to the finish, I'd like to hear your interpretation of the seasons that Arizona, Cal and Washington have had.

Ok the conference RPI thing is great in the tourny I like the Pac 10 to go farther than the ACC. The only ACC team I really think that is athreat to get three rounds in is Carolina. That is unless the committee uses the vbdi to seed Duke a 2 in NC. Where as I think that UCLA, Washington State, Oregon, and Arizona all could do damage. Yes Arizona if they get in, which they always do. They also always beat or nearly beat someone they shouldn't two years ago Illinois and last year UCONN.

This won't happen. Well I guess I shouldn't say "won't" - if they win the ACC tourney and do so by going through, say, BC, Maryland, and UNC, then they might get a 2. Otherwise, they'll likely be around a 4.

Arizona's also been known for gagging against lesser opponents in the tourney.

SD St. has no chance at an at large after the way they gagged against Utah. Air Force should be in trouble, but after the way they were inexplicably let in last year, I don't see a way they'd be left out this year with a much better resume. UNLV and BYU both look to be locks as well though I think BYU deserves some real scrutiny as to whether they're at large worthy.

Hopefully Kentucky can go on a run and avoid firing Tubby Smith. I don't like the rumors that they will go after Rick Barnes should that happen. Barnes finally has this program on the verge of becoming an Elite program, leaving now would not be good. Plus it would kill that 10% chance that Durant stays for one more year.

As a UNC fan I am pretty disappointed in how they are finishing, though they can save some major face in my book by defeating Duke on Sun (thus sweeping them) and getting to the finals of the ACC Tourney. However, unless a couple of other Top Tens fall early in their tourneys, I think the Heels have played themselves out of a one seed.

BTW, illiniguy, this is the deepest the ACC has been in years. That's not to say the Big Ten isn't also very good - it is. But the ACC's middling teams would put a hurt on their counterparts from the Big Ten, IMO.

The ACC has ranked #1, 3, 1, 1, 3, 2 and 3 the past 7 years in conference RPI. No other conference has been outside the top three fewer than two times in the past 7 years.
