The Qatari league is way higher than that, too.

I was just about to make a Qatar joke, too.

I've got £10 (yeah, its not a lot) on Qatar being at a major finals before 2020. I think their investment in football will bring good things in time.

where the hell did you find a sports book to make a bet as specific and yet so random as that one?

book makers in england take bets on everything.

so did anyone else watch/have interest in the real madrid/barcelona games on sunday, or was that just me?

just as exciting (though depressing in the end) a day of sports for me as any of recent time.

That they do, but this one was with a friend. I make £50 if I'm right. I will be right.

i watched the second half of the madrid game and have since watched the replay on tv. i never thought madrid was going to lose but i was thoroughly impressed with their second half. granted, their opponent was garbage, but when madrid started to push forward you could tell it was only a matter of time.

j-shils, did you watch it on gol tv? or did you watch it elsewhere? i mentioned it previously in this thread but the announcer on gol tv was hysterically (as usual).

gol tv. that guy would be annoying as hell if he wasn't so hilarious. he kept talking about how the other guy needed to shut up about tennis players and the guns of navarone(sp) and made little bird noises whenever madrid got close. i loathe beckham and am a big fan of ronaldinho, and was pretty upset at the outcome. great game, even though it wasn't as close as the score said.

didn't madrid have the ball somewhere near 70% of the game?

The Fire finally let Sarachan go, right before their match against Cracovia this Friday.

What a miserable season this has been so far.

If anyone is still interested in buying Gold Cup tickets, it might be worth trying the Fire box office at 888-MLS-FIRE. They may have better seats reserved than what's on Ticketmaster.

I'm going to have to miss most of the game tomorrow evening. Hopefully it goes well...

The USSF actually did something right for a change:

I don't have a link, but the US is now scheduled to play Mexico- in Mexico City, at the Azteca, on September 9th 2007.

I love it. Our players need to play friendlies in hostile Central American enviroments. Between Copa America, Catalonia, Switzerland, Sweden and this date (and 9/12 is also a FIFA international date), all of the players that we need to qualify for 2010 get a dry run in the most hostile, difficult enviorments possible.

This will be an invaluable experience, even if we lose, because we'll be back there in 12 or so months when we get to the Hex (final stage of CONCACAF qualifying) and Bradley and the young Nats will know what to expect.

And imagine if we beat them there.

I long for the day we beat Mexico in their stadium. I can't even imagine what the reaction would be down there. It would be truly glorious.

i'm excited for tonight. a few thoughts:

i had no idea that...

The U.S. team is at .500 for the first time since 1937 (189-189-111). On Aug. 16, 1995, the Americans hit a low at 88-143-70.

i'm sure hejduk will get booked again and be out for the finals (pardon my crocodile tears), but hopefully we'll keep beasley and guch clear.

also, perhaps the biggest understatement in the history of the world:

The United States is the only team that's unbeaten so far, and it didn't give up a goal during group stage. But the Americans have also looked sloppy and disorganized at times.

T minus an hour until I leave for the stadium. My buddies and I are buying random meat at Jewel and then crashing a USA tailgate somewhere.

Also we're all wearing red "let's make sexy time" shirts for no particular reason other than that they'r red and we find it amusing.

Also I'm dying my hair blue.

Sweet -- have fun! I have tickets for the final on Sunday, so hopefully the U.S. team wins tonight.
