Right now I would not be the least bit suprised if Canada won. I actually might be suprised if the US wins. I don't know how much of a difference Klinnsman would make, but I regret every decision they made to not get it done.

U-20 WC is just around the corner. I am assuming its going to be on Fox Sports World. I need to look into that.

ESPNU, actually

Canada is probably the most "in-form" team, but talent wise they're the worst of the 4 semifinalists. Their attacking players are pretty good, but their defense is terrible.

They sound just like the US but in-form like you said ;-). At least Howard has seemed pretty good so far.

Well that kind of sucks. I just switched cable companies and have not gone to digital cable with them yet. Need to see if I can get espnU with them now.

I think our mids are better, actually. At least defensively, anyway. Beasley, Feilhaber, Bradley and Mastro at least usually close off the center of the field.

Hejduk shouldn't play anymore. He crosses like a high school freshman. Gooch and Bocanegra are a calamity back there. They need to communicate a lot better come qualifying. Bornstein was the tallest midget on Saturday.

There's talent in the US pool. Between Cherundolo, Parkhurst, Demerit, Simek, Pearce, Spector, Bocanegra and Oneywu, Bradley should be able to find 4 guys who can not mentally break down 3 times a game.

Thats what drives me crazy. There is a lot of talent, but they just play so unorganized at times and the finishing or lack there of just puts me over the edge.

Realistically, they need someone to just take charge in the back. It seems a lot of times the problem is piss poor communication among the defense, which leads to a break down. For example, on Panama's goal, three US players converged on the ball, leaving no one to cover any of the runners or provide backup. Simply awful.

And don't get me started on the officiating. Wow, that was bad.

Oh, and Ching needs to learn to put some effort into the game. Dude, everyone else is tired. Your job is to run your tail off and harass the heck out of the opposition defense so they can't organize. It's not hard.

Lalas claiming that MLS is on par with the Premier League. I know he is trying to protect Beckham's signing, but still.

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=439873&cc=5901

Every time he opens his mouth something stupid comes out of it.

I suppose, though, if you didn't count Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham and Reading, then yeah, MLS teams could compete.

you forgot bolton, portsmouth, and newcastle (with a healthy owen) on that list.

Also Everton.

Well, pretty much everyone that doesn't get relegated at the end of the season.

Mmmm, even those teams, mostly.

The MLS would have been competitive with Watford this year.

You'd think Lalas could figure it out after the MLS All-Stars(in mid-season form) barely beat a Chelsea team that was in pre-season mode(and I don't think they had their full squad either). Of course, he was saying the exact same thing doing commentary during that game, so I guess that's expecting a bit much of him.

Maybe.

I don't think all of the MLS teams would have been able to compete even in the Championship League in England. Sunderland is better than all of the MLS sides.

I can think of about 12 different leagues that MLS is worse than, top to bottom. There are good individual players in MLS, sure, but the try and make the case Lalas is making is just silly.

12 leagues, eh? let's give it a shot:

Premiership (England)

Bundesliga (Germany)

Serie A (Italy)

Serie A (Brazil)

La Liga (Spain)

Ligue 1 (France)

Primera Division (Argentina)

Superliga (Portugal)

Eredivisie (Netherlands)

Primera Division (Mexico)

Premier Super League (Turkey)

I've got 11 that are head and shoulders above the MLS. And there's a ton of other leagues that have top teams that no MLS team could touch (SPL, Russia, Romania, Greece, CC Championship to name a few).

I'd put the SPL as the 12th League. Hearts, Rangers and Celtic could field 2 teams each better than the 1st choice best MLS team.

According to these guys, we're number 72.

Wow. I don't think we're that bad, but damn.

I was amused.

I'm pretty sure I saw my old Sunday league ranked at 64 ahead of MLS.

never posted in this thread, kind of suprising.

imo, mls sucks. it's the slowest, most boring soccer i have seen. after watching the barcelona/real madrid fiasco over the weekend, then trying to watch real salt lake or something is just a big let down. the goals scored are pitiful too often, and the goalies make it look easy. the umpires don't know what to call a lot of times, etc etc...

with that said, american soccer will be good before too long.

also, someone was telling me that zidane is also coming to mls. at least it sounds like they are getting serious about being taken serious. because landon donavan? hahahahahahaha
