The Chicago Sun-Times reported reliever Scott Williamson is among the players GM Jim Hendry will be seeking to deal, with second baseman Todd Walker, first baseman-left fielder Phil Nevin and left-handed pitcher Glendon Rusch on Hendry's list of players he might try to move.

Nice to see that they're finally mentioning the right names except Perez. If we could move them and get some decent you players in return I'd be pretty happy. There's also a blurb about the Cubs and Marlins being interested in Willy Tavarez right above that.

Why isn't Pierre on that list?

I wouldn't be surprised if Hendry did not move Pierre. I think he will be looking for similar to what he gave up to get him. If nobody offers that, Jim has already said he's willing to take draft picks for Pierre.

I'm sort of hoping that we don't move Pierre but that we offer him arbitration at the end of the year and steal some else's draft pick for a change. With his hot streak lately I'll bet he'll be a Class A FA and get us a 1st or 2nd rounder.

I keep forgetting, are the free agent rankings based on 2 or 3 years?

If it's this year and last year, I could see Pierre ranked as a B rather than an A.

Clement and Nomar were both ranked B's after their time with the Cubs.

It's 3 years.

If somebody trades for Glendon Rusch, I'd be inclined to believe that Jim hendry is not the worst GM in baseball.

I don't mind having Neifi on next year's team if Dusty is gone.

Random major league general manager: Hello?

Jim Hendry: Hey, random major league genreal manager, how's it hanging?

RMLGM: Alright, I guess.

JH: Jimbo here, I see you need some pitching, wanna talk trade?

RMLGM: OK

JH: I see your team could use a left-handed pitcher...

RMLGM: Indeed we could.

JH: Well, I got just the player you need...

RMLGM: Well, don't keep me in suspense, spit it out!

JH: GLEN-DON-RUSCH!

RMLGM: ...

JH: You know, Glendon Rusch.

RMLGM: ....

JH: We'll even throw in some money...and maybe a minor leaguer or two.

RMLGM: ...

JH: Hello? You there?

RMLGM: ...

JH: Going once...going twice...

RMLGM: Ah, I get it. This is one of those prank TV shows. I'm being punk'd, right. Where's the hidden camera? I didn't even know Dick Clark was still alive! I confess, you had me going for a minute.

JH: Well...uh...I was kind of being serious.

RMLGM: ...

JH: What would you give up for Will Ohman?

RMLGM: ...dialtone...

Besides getting someone to play CF in a trade, what internal option is there? Pie is far from ready. He certainly isn't a good lead-off option. I would love for Hendry to improve upon Pierre in CF, but he may have to do so via the trade. Is there someone I'm not thinking of?

Kenny Williams was on the Score this morning professing admiration for Pierre.

Wasn't Greenberg released a few weeks ago?

Whoops. I missed that. Anyway, Juan Pierre 2006 is easy to replace. The minors are flooded with guys who can provide Juan Pierre 2006 production.

Because Ronny Cedeno, our most ready rookie right now (not counting Murton-he's had a little more service time) certainly is playing as well as Pierre-except that's not true, and the gap is widening every single day. So no, the minors are not full of guys who can provide Pierre's production.

Edit: Actually, the way that it's going, Pierre will probably have better numbers than Murton by the end of the season as well. Do you think Murton should be replaced?

I'm sorry. I wasn't referring to just "our" minors. Just about every team has a guy that could provide CF production that Juan Pierre has provided. I was referring to the fact that Juan Pierre 2006 production could easily be matched by minimum salary replacement.

I think the Cubs could put Buck Coats or Sam Fuld in CF tomorrow and you wouldn't have much of a drop off. Is it worth 6m or more to bring Pierre back when you can the same production from a rookie?

Cedeno is a SS and he's hitting exactly like I expected he would.

You mean like the teams that have people playing similarly to Pierre-Aaron Rowand, Steve Finley, Cory Sullivan, Corey Patterson, Mark Kotsay, Willie Taveras. Pierre is outperforming many of those players, and if he has a good second half like he usually does, he could easily move up into the next bunch of center fielders. Are you saying that none of these teams have minor leaguers who could play that well? Pierre will likely be performing in the top 10-15 of center fielders very soon.

Nope. Murton makes league minimum, so that kind of production is acceptable. Pierre is getting big dollars.

Steve Finley was brought in as a 4th outfielder. Randy Winn would be there normally. Finley would mostly be spelling Bonds in LF if everyone was healthy. Tavares is Pierre, but league minimum. Patterson makes 1/3 of what Pierre makes.

Brady Clark, Gabe Gross and Anthony Gwynn make less than half what Pierre makes, and all 3 are probably capable of providing equal or better OBP. Jose Bautista in Pittsburgh has a better OBP.

My point is that Pierre makes way too much money for so little. If Pierre could provide a .360+ OBP, I'd shut up and let him play. He hasn't come near that number since 2004.

Juan Pierre is on pace to play every game this year and score 80 runs. That is absolutely unacceptable from a lead off hitter. 80 runs from the lead off spot is what I would expect to see from a last place team. His .322 OBP is slightly worse than his .326 OBP last year.

As long as Pierre is a Cub, he will lead off. The Cubs need to go out and find someone who can get on base. Bringing Pierre back would not even remotely enter my mind in discussions about the 2007 team.

I'd trade Pierre for whatever I can get and call it a loss. Of course, if I was the GM, Pierre never would have been here in the first place. At least not at the cost of 3 pitching prospects.
