I read here daily or twice a day, but since "the night" in 03 I just cannot bear to post much. I do have to ask if anyone else has the same feeling about Matt Murton as I do. I just hope this kid gets a chance to get some consistant PT down the stetch to see what he can do--I just think everyone is giving up on him way to quickly. It seems like he gets big hits and everyone raves about the type of attitude and work ethic he has. I just feel that if he were left alone to just play that he will make big strides the rest of this year. I mean in his first full season he is hitting about 275 and probably a top 3 OB% for our team. I know his power has not come around yet, but I think if given time, it will

Just my thoughts--let me know what you think......sometimes I wonder if Ryne Sandberg would have ever been given a chance to develop if he would have come up during the quick-to-judge era in Cubs baseball?!?!?

Dusty doesn't trust anyone with Red hair...nor do I!

I like Murton, although I'm not convinced you can have him and Pierre in the same outfield along with Jones. I like that he gets on base, maybe the power will come around I don't know.

Because of defense or production? If it's defense, can anyone give me a brief idea of how Pie's defense is?

Better beware the ginger kids!

Murton's not a ginger kid. He's a daywalker.

Yes but daywalkers are half gingers themselves...they can't be trusted. Make no mistake: gingers are evil. You know who was ginger? Judas. And what did Judas do? Oh, he just got Jesus killed, that's all.

Fine! In the meantime, shut your [deleted] daywalker mouth! Let's see, where was I? Oh yes! Like vampires, the ginger gene is a curse, and unless we work to rid the earth of that curse, the gingers could envelop our lives in blackness for all time. It is time that we all admit to ourselves that gingers are vile and disgusting. In conclusion, I will leave you with this: if you think that the ginger problem is not a serious one, think again.

Murton....who's Murton? Is he the kid that works really hard and one of the kids that gets blamed for the great collaspe of 06?

Being last or near last in both runs scored and team ERA certainly suggests a monumental team effort, but Murton most assuredly was one of the most stinky during the horrid May-June stretch, and should not get a free pass just because he's a "kid" either. An ubelievable .484 May OPS, 6 EBHs and twice as many GIDPs as RBI in 2 months is pretty bad no matter how one looks at it. He's starting to turn it around now, and has gotten plenty of rope this year despite the Baker critics view, but most certainly deserves his share of the blame.

They stated that one of the first prioritys next season will be find a Left fielder with sum power like C. Lee or Cabrera etc..

So then we can platoon Jones/Murton in right field like it ought to be done.

Murton should be playing everyday now, but we should definitely look to improve at LF in '07. There's little indication his power will come around based on his track record, and he needs to hit for more power to be a suitable corner OF.

TT, how do you feel about the idea of signing CLee for LF (assume a reasonable contract, not the silly 5/75) and platooning MM and JJ in RF?

I like the idea of a Jones/Murton platoon, whether it's in RF or even LF if the Cubs can find a power-hitting RF. As much as I like Murton, I don't think he can be an everyday corner outfielder with the lack of power on this team

Not a huge fan of Lee. Not great at avoiding outs, and he's going to get an outrageous amount of money.

Murton/Jones in LEFT field would be okay I guess, but I'd still want/need someone along the lines of Abreu(or the like) at the other corner.

And they'll end up with Preston Wilson.

That would be wonderful. As the trading deadline gets closer I'm rooting for the Phils to keep falling further off the pace to increase the likelihood of a trade. Bobby A would look awfully good patrolling RF.

That would be the the tihng to do right there... you sign Lee or Cabrera to play left and you can platoon murton and jones in right... thats what should be done...Since Jones can only hit righties and murton can only hit lefties..

Cabrera is not a free agent, so the Cubs can't sign him.

Ain't that the truth.

I agree about Lee. Those perfect fits on paper seem to always have a way of not panning out. The only hope would be that the truly huge Wrigley mashers like Kingman sometimes do have a 1 year monster year before falling off. If we'd only found a way to get Mike Schmidt at 3B ...
