I'm not saying give them away...but if we can make the team better I have no problems in doing it...nobody is off limits in that respect.

i understand what you are saying but no one would do that deal

2 mandatory free agent signing's this off-season are: Zito and Lee

Zito is not worth the money he's going to command in the offseason. I would stay away from him at all costs.

Well cubs are going to need to sign a FA pitcher this off-season. Who would you want instead? ANother guy I would like the cubs to look at is Kelvim Escabor, but that being said Zito is the best pitcher on the market and he is a former CY young winner so your probably right in the fact he will command alot of $$$$$$$$

Zito never misses a start. I'd trade Wood, Prior and Miller too for him right now and never think twice about it.

the cubs will let the serious organizations get these guys, i.e. yankees, mets, la, red sox & angels.

well if we trade Wood, we wouldn't have to pick up his outrageous $13.5 million option. We could use most of that money for Zito.

Zito hasn't put together a full good year since his Cy Young in 2002. He hasn't gotten injured, which I guess makes him better than Wood and Prior, but he's alreayd making $7.9 mil this year. He is not worth the $10+ mil per year he's going to get next year.

In Neifi's post game comments, on two seperate occasions he said "there's nothing we can do."

There's the Dusty Baker attitude at its best.

I love that he freakin tried to lay down a bunt to start the 9th after his glovework....almost like he's daring fans to hate him more than they already do.

he would be better than Prior and Wood going on the DL and we getting great pitching from Hill and Guzman

And that's the point. I'm going to change my statement from above. If we can get him at a decent price, i.e. under $10 mil a year, then go for it. But he's going to flash that Cy Young award around all winter and will get at least $10 mil. If the Yankees get interested he'll get $12-13.

Another guy i would like to see the Cubs have interest in if they cannot get Lee is Torii Hunter

He's a flashier version of Jacque Jones for a lot more money: no thanks.

So you want the OF to be even worse offensively?

No i dont but Hunter will put up better numbers than Pierre would. HUnter is a guy who will sacrafice his body for the team something this cub team does not have. A real team player

Hunter has a list of five teams that he can block a trade to. The Cubs are one of those teams, so you can forget about him ever signing with us. Thank God.

Hunter is a bad idea, and you won't get Lee. The Brewers will most likely trade Lee at the deadline if he's playing well to a team who will be willing to sign him.

Lee is a bit over-rated anyway. I'd stick with your young guys and give them a chance to grow into good players.

Unless, of course, 2007 is the year you're expecting to win it all, and need a performer NOW. Somehow I doubt that's the case.

Awesome. Just what we need! More intangibles! Forget getting good baseball players who put up good numbers. We need more clutchiness, unselfishness (how can you be a selfish baseball player? It's a team game built around individual competitions.), and more guys "willing to give up their body for the team".

I will now go barf, since this is likely what our braintrust thinks anyway.

I'm pretty sure Torii Hunter and Jacque Jones are like the same guy. The only reason Twins fans thought there were three guys in their outfield was because they were pumping nitrous through the ventilation system so everyone's vision was all blurry

Well, now they have Juan Pierre, one of the best leadoff hitters in the game, one of the best basestealers in the game, and one of the best defensive centerfielders in the game. So he's going to change the game for these one-run losses that they had a lot of last year. He's going to make a big difference in close ballgames, and I guarantee you before this season is over, the fans here at Wrigley Field are going to love Juan Pierre.

If Joe had written this in a sarcastic tone, he would have been dead on.

It was hilarious when he said that.

Now, it's mostly just sad.

guys we suck. we are awful. we need better players. we are overpaying for garbage...let's quit worrying about overpaying for good players and just get some. we pay wood 12 mil...i'll take zito for 10.

we pay pieere 6,jones 6 and neifi 2.5...i'll take furcal for 13.

we have 95 mil dollar payroll and 75 of it is either awful or hurt.

also we are paying maddux 9 mil. i love maddux..i hope he wins 17-18 games but next year without him and wood we have 21 mil to sign top notch starters. if we dump prior we have even more. we can easily sign 2 studs and a middle of the road guy to add on to marshall and z...and could even have miller in as insurance.

WOW, I stop watching right before Dempster got in and bam I hear the news the Cubs lost and on top of it Neifi and his error probably cost us. This is a much deserved loss that falls squarely on Baker and Hendry for resigning the most pathetic players in Neifi and Rusch. Kudos Jim, you have the entire fan base hating you. Nothing will change which is just ridiculous!

they shouldn't have got runs 4 & 5 off dumpster. rusch had nothing to do w/ the loss. neifi should retire today.
