No reason to trade for Willis. He's an arm surgery waiting to happen.

If we're going to overpay for someone it's had better be Cabrera.

Florida is going to be sitting pretty by the time they deal Cabrera and Willis. Maybe not this year or next, but very soon they will have balance and depth.

That's what I and almost everybody thought when he was called up.

This won't happen. It's too embarrassing for the organization to get fleeced in a trade, then give up the farm to re-acquire a player you should never have gotten rid of in the first place.

That's just death.

I don't want any part of the D-train. He got by with mediocre pitches and a deceptive delivery. Now that the league has seen him a few years, that deceptive delivery isn't enough.

Marshall has shown he can get major league hitters out.

four times.

billingsley's the better prospect.

Why because he can throw the ball harder then Marshall? Well...so can Angel Guzman. And I DO consider Angel is the same class with Billingsley.

that makes one of you.

Billingsley is pretty much in a class all of his own now that Verlander, Liriano, Cain, and King Felix are all in the majors. I think the Dodgers wanted to start the season with him in AAA in order to work the kinks out of his changeup and work on some pacing issues.

If Guzman were healthy and 100%, he could compare to Billingsley...but that's not the case. Not by a longshot.

How do you know? Have you seen Chad pitch or know what he pitches like? I doubt it.

Billingsley does throw harder (92-96 mph). But, like Marshall, he has good movement on his FB (especially when it's in the 92-94 range). His slider is phenomenal and he has a plus curve (like Marshall). His change has improved dramatically this year, giving him four solid major league pitches. Chad is a future #1 pitcher, something Sean isn't. Billingsley is one of the top pitching prospects in the game and is a better prospect and pitcher than Marshall.

And this coming from probably one of the biggest Marshall fans around the board and one of the few people who was a big fan of his last season.

If the Cubs are going to target anyone on the Marlins, it needs to be Cabrera and only Cabrera. I think they definitely need to target another quality starter for next season, but Willis is not that guy. He's a ton of DL stints waiting to happen, and given this club's track record with pitching health and coaching, the Cubs will put him on it in no time. I'd rather gamble on the in-house DL jockeys than bring in another one.

I totally agree with you. We need a bat far more than anything else. Murton is a nice player but Cabera is the type of bat that is needed.

I think a package of Murton, Marshall and Marmol would really give the fish something to think about. When (if) healthy:

Pierre

Walker

Lee

Cabrera

Ramirez

Barrett

Jones

Cedeno

There is really no reason to trade Miggy (or Dontrell for that matter). Florida has a 15 million payroll after dropping from about 60 from 2005. Every major league team had at least 110 million in revenues. Florida will get a check from MLB for 60 to 70 mil this year alone (between shared revenues and revenue sharing). Their gate receipts were only 24 mil last year, so even if it drops a bit this year it won’t make much of a dent in 119 mil in revenues they had last year. If Miggy gets 3 or 4 million more next year, finances are not in any way a factor (he is only making 472k this year).

So they would unlikely trade him, especially this year. If they would it would be due to insane overpaying. Even offering our top 3 prospects of their choice wouldn’t likely get it done. And as has been pointed out a lot of other teams can come up with a better package then we can.

Florida has no "financial" reasons to trade either Cabrera or Willis, but there could be other reasons that they would do so. First, if they determine that neither will be a part of the team when they are ready to contend, then they might decide to trade while value is at its peak. As Cabrera and Willis get more expensive, fewer teams would be in the running. Right now, the Fish can involve many teams and get the bidding higher and higher.

Alos, I fully concur that whoever gets one or the other will pay a steep price.
