The pitchers who give up the HRs to Bonds that tie and then pass Ruth on the all-time list will be more infamous than Tracy Stallard and Al Downing, guys who gave up record-breaking HRs in the past. This, of course, is because Bonds is so unlikeable and so "pumped."

Do you think that, assuming they're still in the game the next time he bats, they'll deliver Bonds a little chin music? Assuming that the game is not played in San Francisco, don't you think that would bring a roar of approval from the crowd and perhaps a little redemption? Do you think the pitchers would have the, uh, gumption to do that?

with us coming to SF soon, I got a feeling Cubs pitching will be the one to cough them up... Will Ohman if I was a betting man.

I wouldn't mind seeing Z through one right at his earhole, strike him out, and they show him up in the biggest dance extravaganza ever seen on a ML pitching mound.

He just got hit in the hand by Jake Peavy the day before and the way he acted I thought he would be out for a while. The SF announcers thought he had hurt his pinkie finger, but the construction worker gloves he had on apparently protected him. (Babe Ruth didn't have all the armor and protection he has, in fact they didn't have batting helmets in those days and buzzing a guy after he hit a home run was part of the game!) I very am surprised he isn't hit more often the way he crowds the plate but pitching inside has gone the way of everyone dressing the same/(uniform).

The good news is the Giants have lost ALL four games he has homered in this year. The only one that almost made a difference was the one he hit off Wagner to tie the score and send the game into extra innings which they lost.

If and when he passes Ruth's record on the road, I hope he gets loudly booed like he deserves. Someone said he is jealous of Ruth because he hit homeruns eating hot dogs and he had to do it using a needle!

If he passes Ruth on the road he WILL get booed. There is no doubt about it. The only place he'll hear cheers is in San Francisco. Nobody else wants him to pass Ruth. I don't think whoever gives up the homeruns should bean Barry just because it's Barry. The Cubs pitchers didn't bean McGwire after he hit #62 against us in 1998. Even though I HATE Bonds and wish injury upon him every day, I think it would be classless to bean him.

I'm speechless.

"Beaning" used to mean hitting in the head which I would be opposed to also. But I am not opposed to pitchers throwing inside and hitting a batter if they lean over the plate or stand and admire the ball they hit out the next time they bat. That is the way baseball has been played as no one should have any unfair advantage or be shown up.

If the guys stands over the plate like that you should be forced to hit him twice before he gets the base.

It's funny that sports radio/BBTN guys still say Barry is slumping. I wish someone in our lineup was slumping their way to a 1133 OPS.

Pfff. Numbers don't tell the whole story.

BT did a whole story last nite on Barry's struggles at the plate this year. They made it pretty evident where the 2 holes in his swing have popped in this year.

Whatever the case, someone needs to send a note to the Cub staff not to pitch him up and away, as that is where all 4 of his HRs have been this year.

Steve Traschel would like to know why he wasn't included on your list. . .

Semi-related to this.

If MLB aren't celebrating Bonds' catching Ruth, why have they got this page dedicated to the chase?

What's going on there?

Am I missing something?

As far as pitching to Bonds, I long for the Cub strategy of 2003 when they would bust him inside on nearly every pitch. Remember when Wood plunked him twice (once of the dirt) in one game, and Prior buzzing him the next game? Many, including me, saw that as a defining moment for Prior when Bonds wagged his bat at Mark. Regardless, it showed that the Cubs wouldn't let him intimidate them.

Allow me to air just one more thing. For those that think its a race thing that people don't want Bonds catching Ruth, its time to give up that ridiculous notion. I don't think its shared much here, but I could be wrong. Lets not forget, Maris was crucified as he approached Babe's single season record and he may have been the whitest guy in baseball. There is something special about Babe Ruth that transcends all of this race garbage. He was bigger than life, and his reputation continues to this day. Just wanted to vent.

Maybe its because he stands and watches every homerun he hits but then goes ballistic when a pitcher strikes him out and pumps his fist. Well, that's probably just 'roid rage.

Ahh, but then would Cards fans then defend Bonds' bat-throw after he homers in his next at-bat? :D

I don't think anyone would use the race card as the reason they don't want to see Bonds pass Ruth.

Personally, I really don't care if he passes Ruth. Passing Ruth won't change how much I can't stand him. Retiring today won't change how much I can't stand him. He is what he is.

Now, if he attempts to pass Henry Aaron, a classy, unselfish individual and a true ambassador to the sport of baseball, I will be angry. And the closer he gets to Aaron, I certainly hope more noise about all of Bonds records being stricken will be taken into heavy consideration.

It helps your OPS when pitchers are still too damn scared to throw you a strike because that's what they've been conditioned to think for five years, ignoring the fact that he is hitting .250 and can't run to save his life.

He's got a .550+ SLG to go with that too, it's not like he can't hit it out of the infield and people are still scared of him.

A pitcher liking to throw inside and hitting a guy that is leaning over the plate is one thing. I could care less if that happened. But I'm talking about the intentional HBP where the guy turns and the ball hits him in the back. That would be classless.

As for the standing and admiring their homeruns, I don't like it for just any home run. But if a guy hits a milestone homerun a la Bonds's 714/715 or a walk off homerun then that is different. But I don't like it when somebody admires a third inning solo shot that means nothing more than giving your team one run..

It all doesn't matter since A-Rod and/or Pujols will break Bonds record eventually. It will be a shortlived reign at the top for Barry. Plus he'll be dead at age 47 from all the roids
