To come back to Houston this year to pitch.

Houston Chronicle

If Roger Clemens wants to play in Houston again, it's clear the Astros are ready to start negotiations with the future Hall of Famer with the parameters of at least $18 million for this season in a pro-rated deal based on when he returns.

Per Major League Baseball's rules, the Astros were barred from negotiating with Clemens from Dec. 8 until today because they opted against offering him salary arbitration by Dec. 7.

Last year, Astros owner Drayton McLane gave Clemens $18,000,022, the most ever given a pitcher for one season. According to a person close to the negotiations, the club is prepared to start the negotiations with Clemens' representatives at the rate of no lower than $18 million per season on a one-year deal.

It'd be awesome to see him come back and in his first start, Murton drills one off his forehead so he could retire for good.

It'd make me love Murton even more.

Rome had the dude from the Houston Chronicle on this afternoon. Guy said Clemens is looking for around $3M a month and perks. Clemens kids actually want him to return to Boston, who according to this guy, is willing to retire his number for him. But Clemens has too much respect for Joe Torre to do that also according to this guy.

So who knows? Maybe Texas can find a bullpen (for God's sake, Alf is the setup man) and make him a really nice offer.

One of Roger's best friends in the game is Al Nipper who is pitching coach for the Red Sox. Nipper has been heavily lobbying Clemens to come to the Red Sox. Kevin Kennedy thinks it is very likely that Clemens will go to Boston.

If Rah-jah goes back to Boston, I'll pah-ty wicked hahd coah.

If he goes to Boston, Jimi isn't going to be able to show his face around here ever.

But, since we are Cubs fans, what will happen is he'll sign with the Stros and come back to pitch nearly as good as last year.

Forgot this part. :D

Clemens and his representatives have noticed the Astros' strong play, especially the impressive starts by lefthander Wandy Rodriguez and rookie righthanders Taylor Buchholz and Fernando Nieve.

"The best thing that's happened for the Astros is this incredible start," Randy Hendricks said. "Wandy and Buchholz make this a different team. I'll tell you what — they might hit the World Series again."

Good thing the Red Sox and Yankees have no chance at the World Series.

Well I just traded for him (and Mike Young) in my fantasy league so I really hope he comes back...but not to the Astros. Please go to Boston! Pleeeeeeeease!

Go wherever the money is the greatest and the danger is maximized. The faster Roger is retired from baseball by someone, the better.

I think Roger should just try to stay in the spotlight a little longer and keep doing his best Favre imitation. It's sooooooo interesting.

so if the Astros are willing to give him an 18M deal that is pro-rated, and Roger will not come back until at least June 1, that means the offer is a maximum of 12M.

this to me seems like the Astros owner setting up his excuse for after Clemens signs with an AL east team for more money..."well I offered him 18M per year"

Well, that's the Astros starting offer. And I don't think another team is going to offer much more than $3m a month.
