From the looks of the game today, there are plenty of seats available at New Busch. This is horrible for the "best fans of the game". They have a new stadium and they can't sell it out 3 games into its existance. Yet Wrigley is sold out.

A large portion of the upper stands is closed to fans at this point.

That's because of construction.

I also remember when I was a kid visiting family in Minnesota and going to a Twins game at the old Metropolitan Stadium. The entire upper deck was closed off because there were so few people at the game. I mean they had chain link fences up and everything so you couldn't go up there.

Edit: I just saw the highlight with Lee's gamewinning home run. Those sections you saw in the left-field corner are still under construction and fans can't sit there.

Can anyone thing of another park that was still in the process of being built or heavily redone during the season? Wasn't Edison Field in Anaheim the last place that was like that?

Wrong.

The game today was a sellout. Parts of the stadium are closed due to ongoing construction, hence the empty sections.

Almost all of the games are going to sell out.

When I was a child going to Cub games, the upper deck was rarely open. Essentially, Opening day (maybe) and the summer holiday weekend games - that was just about it.

Oakland had ongoing construction during the season as they made an ugly park even uglier for baseball.

When Safeco opened, they opened after the All Star break which I thought was interesting.

I was at the game on Thursday and it was packed. (The sections that were opened.)

I will be there as well with one of my buddies. We got standing room only tickets, but its worth it to see the Cubs. Go Cubs!

I've got standing room for Friday's game.

SRO is not a bad gig. As I've said in another thread...SRO field level, behind home plate rocks.

They shoulda let you do some PBP

Hey, Len! Did you see that. Let me do some play by play.

Oh and here's a scoop. Dempster says he still has the Captain America suit!

That is too funny! Dempster has to be a great conversation.

He's actually kind of quiet...but I asked did he still have the suit and he answered, "You betcha!"

Vance what did you think of Busch III?

It was nice. I don't know that I'm the best to give an overall view point as I had great seats for each game. The Redbird club seats were pricey, but nice. Extra room and cushions on the seat.

Overall, I think they did a great job with the park. The fans sitting near or next to me were very courteous and friendly...of course that may be what to expect in those particular areas.

I did endure some taunting after the game on Friday night, but nothing worse than what I experience in Houston.

The staff at the stadium were very friendly and helpful, and I even made a point of seeking out a supervisor to say so. I like the openness of the outfield, but the one drawback is that in clear view are the parking garages. It would be nicer if something else were there instead.

While not my favorite non-Wrigley park, I felt they did a great job. Of course, I was sitting in some premium areas.

I thought it was a pretty cool park. I like how downtown is in the background. I still like PNC the best besides Wrigley, but new Busch is really nice.

Met Vance and Indifferent this weekend. Good times. I didn't get to talk as much, as I was busy pouring drinks, but they were both nice people.

I thought indifferent was a cards fan.

I only went to Sunday's game, and sat in the bleachers. I have always been treated very well by Cardinals fans in STL, and Sunday was no exception. But then again, I've been to 13 other MLB stadiums and I've never been treated badly. A Cubs shirt or hat often gets me preferential treatment outside the NL central. I seem to meet Cubs fans wherever I go.

Anyway, I liked the new Busch. There weren't cushions on the seats in the bleachers, but I'm not old enough to want the cushions -- plus there were seatbacks, which is an improvement over the Wrigley bleachers, even the new bleachers. The fans of both teams behaved in my section (avoiding profanities is good enough for me in the bleachers). I talked to a few season ticket holders, all of whom were happy with things. I'll post some pics later, maybe tomorrow.
