  1. could use some more at bats to get back into the groove.
  2. You got that from my thoughts on Jim Edmonds? you are "sick" over some guy you've never met putting on a cubs' shirt. that sounds terrible. Ok, fair enough if you want to take the words so literally. I have met Jim Edmonds, I have talked to him and joked with him dozens of times. From what I know he is an ok guy in real life. I can't stand him as a ball player and the fact he is on the Cubs is beyond annoying. I did not lose any sleep over it but I still find it extremely aggravating as do many many many other Cubs fans. I hope my clarified comments don't give you any reason to speculate that I am standing on the Poplar Street bridge ready to jump.
  3. I come from a long line of Chicago Cubs fans that have a long history of 'hating' Saint Louis Cardinals. It is my birth right to 'hate' Jim Edmonds if I so choose to... and I do. I don't even 'hate' Jim Edmonds solely because he was a Cardinal... I 'hate' him because he is Jim Edmonds the showboating trash-talking complainer of the strike zone that has very annoying quirks about him. I respect the Saint Louis Cardinals and I have a lot of respect for the rivalry but I have very little respect for Jim Edmonds the ball player. It is my birth right to be sick over him becoming part of our history even if it is in the smallest way.
  4. Great thread 8-) My Grandpa became a Cubs fan at a young age and remained a Cubs fan even after a move to Saint Louis. I lived in my grandparent's house through my childhood and everyday after school I would come home and sit down on the floor next to his chair and watch the Cubs games with him. He taught me all about the old Cubs of his day (he loved Gabby Hartnett) and that Ryne Sandberg was the type of player I was supposed to want to be like. Through those years I learned what devotion to a team is, what passion and loyalty are, and in 1984 I learned what heartbreak is. In other words, I learned to be a Cub fan. He passed away some years ago and all the family members that were Cub fans at one time have since changed their alliance to the current hometown team. I am the last one that still is bleeding Cubbie blue but I do have a son now that will hopefully not get caught up in the hometown Cardinal madness and will walk with the rest of us Cub fans down the road of seemingly endless Cubbie hope! I have my grandpa to thank for making me a Cubs fan. I owe it to him for the 20 years of companionship that was so strongly bonded by the Cubs to always remain a Cubs fan. As I watched the game last night I couldn't help but think about him and how this might be 'the year' and how I wished he could be here with me to share the hope with me.
  5. I just left the Edward Jones Dome and saw that the Saint Louis Rams Career Restoration Clinic for Rex Grossman is ready for Monday night. My stupid Rams are more than ready to help him turn it around. To be honest, you don't even need him this week. Just snap it straight to the backs and run every down. The Rams can't stop anyone.... I mean ANYONE. Look for the Rams to attempt to force Rex to beat them while they stick 11 in the box but still give up 200+ on the ground. :P The Rams will show up for this one, at least the offense will. Bulger called out some teammates so a fire has been lit under their you know whats. This game has the makings of an upset. Here's to hoping for an exciting game with nobody getting hurt. Go Rams! Rams board for anyone wanting the opposition's view point
  6. Maddux's numbers as a cub and you tell me if you see a pattern: 2004: 16W 4.02 ERA 1.18WHIP .269BAA 2005: 13W 4.24 ERA 1.22WHIP .275BAA 2006: 9W 4.69 ERA 1.29WHIP .284BAA (136IP) See the pattern? Do you think his numbers are going to get better when the stats clearly show his number declining every year? You throw away the April hot streak he was on and his numbers would look far worse. No thanks to Maddux. The numbers tell one story but what happens on the field next season isn't in any of those stats. And of course if you disregard the month of April his stats will look different. If you disregard the month of August they look different. Where is the reasoning behind cherry picking stats that a player put up? He put the numbers up, he owns the numbers, he made the pitches. To state the glaringly obvious, by doing this we can make anyone look good or bad. Sorry but this type of logic is as flawed as any other type of prediction based logic. Zambrano's ERA and has gone up 3 years in a row also (his WHIP was up and down) but strangely I don't know for sure that it will do the same in 2007. Do you? Then how can you be so sure that Maddux's will.... Either way, I do agree, as you said, Mateo, Marshall and Miller would be just fine as a 5th - especially considering the cost and the experience that Mateo and Marshall would gain. But I don't agree that Maddux's stats HAVE to be worse than the previous season's just because "the numbers say so". Numbers don't bat, field, pitch or run the bases - players do.
  7. Well he put up those numbers last year so obviously he HAS to put up those numbers or worse this year because that's what all baseball players do. They can not improve their stats from year to year, only regression. It's a rule. /sarcasm
  8. Good to know buddy, it's been a while. :P
  9. Hilarious. That guy was living on a different planet when he made that comment. As if he had bargaining leverage with that. :D
  10. Can't wait to be among my fellow Cubs fans. I'll be SRO for Sunday hopefully with a broom in one hand and a nice cold Budweiser in the other. \:D/
  11. oops repost  lock / delete 8)
