Hill before Guzman. Hill has already dominated AAA(and is picking up where he left off so far this year), already has service time, and it allows Guzman to build arm strength.

Regardless of who gets the nod, DFA Rusch.

Hill pitched well in AAA, but he pitched like crap with the big league club last year. I'd rather see Guzman called up. But I'd definitely take either over Rusch.

hate to break it to you, but there's a decent chance that guzman will pitch like crap when he first comes up too. marshall didn't pitch that well in his first start. you just can't expect a guy to hop right into the rotation and put up a 2.50 era.

I'm not sure what I said that could have possibly caused you to infer that I'm expecting Guzman to put up a 2.50 ERA, but anyways... he's been in the minors since 2000 and I'm ready to see what he can do at the major league level.

i am too. but you don't want hill b/c of the lumps he took last year, and i think it'd be naive to think that guzman won't have similar problems at first.

I think it's pretty ridiculous to just assume that Guzman will struggle. Sure, he might. But then again, he might not. And it's not that I'm opposed to calling Hill up; I'd just rather see what Guzman is capable of first.

Most rookies have up and down outtings. Look at Wood for example. Gets rocked and then strikes out 20. Guys like Duke are the extreme exception to the rule.

i guess we just disagree then. i don't think it's ridiculous to assume that a guy will struggle when he first gets to the bigs. most guys do. don't get me wrong, i'd rather suffer through a few outings where guzman struggles than a whole season of rusch continuing to struggle.

i'd prefer hill marginally over guzman at this point, but i'd prefer them both considerably over rusch.

I'd take Hill over Guzman at this point as well, there's just not enough there to be able to evaluate Guzman. He hasn't shown the ability to pitch against higher competition and more importantly, an ability to stay healthy enough to determine whether or not he can handle the workload. At AAA, his workload can be managed more effectively compared to the majors. I'm not the biggest Hill fan, but I'd rather see him out there than Rusch.

dibs! I want in the wagon too!

"... back seat, middle, feet on the hump! Thats my seat!"

"He's not supposed to want the hump is he, Walt?"

I'm all for Guz comin' up. It's about time we see what this kid's got at the ML level. Too many years of waiting, lets get it on!

Right now it could be anyone... I just don't wanna see Rusch pitch anymore as the "#3 starter". ](*,)

# 2 if you want to be exact....

Anybody is better than Rusch. I personally want to see what Guzman can do. Sure he'll struggle at times, but with his stuff he'll pitch well plenty of times too IMO. But Rusch needs to be taken out of the rotation. What's the first thing that comes to your mind when Rusch is getting ready to pitch? Mine is we're going to lose today. I don't have anything personally against Rusch, but he's terrible. A starting pitcher's job is to give his team a chance to win. Rusch doesn't do that. I mean, C'mon how can a major league pitcher give up two home runs to a pitcher. Hendry and Dusty, will you please wake up! Give one of our young talented pitchers a chance.

Guzman>Hill>>>>>Rusch

I wouldn't complain if it was between Hill and Rusch, but Guzman is the guy with major league stuff. Hill has a major league curve ball but the rest of it is AAAA. To me that translates to guys like Shawn Estes. It's only a month long experiment at the very least so I'd like to see what Guzman's got against major league hitters. I've seen Hill and I'm not at all impressed. He's a Loogy at worst and a #5 starter at best. I see Guzman as a very solid #3 major league starter when given the opportunity.l

Well, I'm in too. I thought the kid had good stuff in the few spring training games I watched. And good Lord, Pie has 11 RBI's in 21 at bats?

That's 11 RBI's out of the leadoff spot if I'm not mistaken. That makes it even more impressive.

Not that I want Rusch on the team...

...but is it really wise to make such a brash move based on 2 starts?

Based on what I've seen, yes. Bronson Arroyo takes you deep twice and you've got some deep issues. Next thing you know Tom Glavine's going 'oppo' on you.

Since Rusch 'saved' the Cubs in 2004, he's not going anywhere.

I hope you're being sarcastic. Because if you're not, I must ask you what he saved them from. Mediocrity?

If you were being sarcastic - well played.

I say we call up Guzman because of his 1.000 OPS so far in Iowa. We can bat him fifth when he pitches.

So what if it's two at bats? Does Hill have a 1.000 OPS? So there.

Oh. And I'm so on this BandWGN. Guzman or Hill might struggle just as much as Rusch, but at least there'd be something to be gained from it (development, evaluation, etc.), as opposed to just outright suckiness.

Exactly. Giving up HR's to Griffey and Dunn is one thing. Giving up HR's to Arroyo is another. It's something to worry about.

Dudes, there is a law of averages.

Just like when you're out fishing. Somedays, your girlfriend won't let you go. OTher times, the fish are biting chartreuse jigs. You just don't know.

When Rusch's average laws smooths out, he'll have some good starts.

It'll be like Jimmy Houston Outdoors.
