1) Ryno

2) Hawk

3) Suttcliffe (some major man love here)

4) Bill Buckner

5) Mark Grace

In my lifetime:

1) Ryno

2) Maddux

3) Puckett

4) Winfield

5) Griffey

Posted

1. Andre Dawson

2. Babe Ruth

3. Ryne Sandberg

4. Kerry Wood

5. Ernie Banks

Does anybody else think that Wood's 20K game was really a no-hitter? While I haven't watched the whole game since the day it was played, I remember being convinced that the one hit should've been scored an error on Orie.

Though born in Chicago, I grew up in Pittsburgh and Van Slyke lived in the same condo complex as my grandma. What a great dude he was.

As for Andy Hawkins, there's not a better guy around. Plus, he let me marry his first born. ;)

besides dunn and mercker...

1. Sammy Sosa

2. Will Clark. Too young to appreciate the badness of 1989, and he was my idea of the perfect ballplayer. Plus, I was a first baseman.

3. Carlos Zambrano

4. Ryne Sandberg

5. Vance Law. For some reason when I was really young, I arbitrarily chose him as my favorite player.

That would be my list, except George Brett would be on the #3. And ironically, Vance Law was one of the reasons why I got attached to the Cubs, along with Harry, Sandberg, Dawson, and Grace.

Heck, I used to collect a bunch of Vance Law's baseball cards when I was a kid.

Yeah i love Marcus Giles just cause he runs into stuff and is scrappy little player.

I'm not the biggest fan of Giles's tendancy to run into stuff.

speaking of crappy thirdbaseman (Vance Law), one of my first favorite players was Steve Ontiveras.

4. Kerry Wood (how likely is it we'll never see another dominating performance like his 20K game against Houston?)

I'm sure this has been mentioned umpteen times on this board, but Bill James and his wild statistical formulas took all the factors into consideration and says that this was the single most dominating pitching performance in the history of baseball.

Not that I doubt you but where did you read this?

Bill James' Game Score formula measures pitcher dominance in a particular game:

1. Start with 50 points

2. Add 1 point for every out (3 points = 1 IP)

3. Add 2 points for each inning completed after the 4th

4. Add 1 point for every strikeout

5. Subtract 2 points for each hit allowed

6. Subtract 4 for each earned run allowed

7. Subtract 2 for each unearned run allowed

8. Subtract 1 for each walk

The top game score in the history of baseball is Kerry's 20k game with a score of 105.

What's the second best game, and how far behind was it?

That game is more dominant if you convert that hit to an error (which it should have been...damn you Kevin Orie - and Ricky Gutierrez!)
