Speaking of Iowa, what are the Vegas odds on PSU pulling the upset tonight over the Hawkeyes (who are undefeated at home)?

Ugh. In the current bracketology, KU has a first round matchup with SIU, 2nd round matchup with Pitsnogle & Co., and a 3rd round matchup with Duke. Those are three pretty tough draws. Me no likey.

I would kill for the current bracketology to be true for Illinois. The easiest of the 7s, easiest of the 10s, easiest of the 3s, easiest of the 6s, and easiest of the 1s. Meanwhile, Duke and Nova's brackets look harsh.

I would kill to remember what bracketology means.....thanks mike d.

http://www.spartantailgate.com/forums/images/smilies/rumor.gifLatest Bracketology has IU playing Wichita St. as a 10 seed.

IMO, IU will need to win 3 out of their next 4 games to get into the dance. They should beat Purdue tonight...They will likely lose to Michigan. They then will need to win two conference tournament games. I don't see them getting into the tournament with anything less and I'm doubting that they play well enough to win 3 of 4 and none at Assembly Hall. But thanks TT..I did enjoy discussing the potential of them playing in the NCAA tournament. For a moment I felt like a kid peering into a candy store from the outside window.

It seems like Mohammed Hachad has been at NU for 10 years.

And agreed with Ryan, NU is scientists' preferred cure for Insomnia.

I think you're wrong. This puts them at 16 wins. A conf. tourney win puts them at 17. They will be a top 40 RPI team. 4-7 vs. RPI top 25. Quality losses by less than 5 each against the 2 #1 teams all season. .500 record in 2nd toughest conference.

Northwestern had no right to win that game. After I didn't think it could get worse than dribbling the ball of their leg multiple times, they step out of bounds for no apparent reason, and then throw the final inbound pass to the NU bench.

I hate basketball so much. One chance to storm the court. That's all I've asked for. But noooo. They have to play like crap for 40 minutes and then let it catch up to them at the very end. 3,243 unforced turnovers (by my count), the usual missed free throws, and who knows what else. Then add the refs and bam. I'm pissed.

Why can't Northwestern ever play so poorly down the stretch against Iowa? Our last 3 trips there they've executed perfectly, Vukusic takes over in the last two minutes and they get stops on us that would win the game.

Now when we need them to hold onto a lead so we can grab a share of the title, they dribble it off their legs, step out of bounds, miss free throws, don't get defensive rebounds and give up an easy bucket.

If ever a team was a thorn in someone's side...

I agree; get to 17 wins and IMO they're a lock (17 wins almost always gets a team from a major conference in, and I see no reason to deny IU a bid if they reach 17). They have righted themselves since the slide (three wins in a row now, including one over a ranked team and one on the road).

I agree that Indiana will be in, but 17 wins is far from a guarantee for a major conference team.

I don't see Maryland, Clemson, Nebraska, Louisville, USC, making the tourney. Nor do I think Colorado deserves it. None of the current 16 win teams in major conferences (Vandy, Rutgers, Iowa St., ) will get in with just 1 more win either.

Penn State, that was pathetic. 19% shooting in the first half? You think you're going to win a game in the NIT? Grrrrr....

Yeah 17 wins is hardly a guarantee to get you in from a major conference. 20 was always the standard but even now that doesn't guarantee you anything with more bids going to mid-majors.

If Indiana wins at Michigan I think they're both in, but each could use a win in the BTT.

That was pretty ugly. But you have to remember that Iowa is ranked 2nd in the country in defensive efficiency and they're MUCH better defensively at home than they are on the road. Actually they haven't been very good defensively on the road, but they've been incredible at home.

As good as we've been defensively at times this year, Alford said that was the best 40 minutes of defense we've played all year and possibly the best 40 minutes of defense he's seen in 15 years of coaching.

They actually lost by 8 points to both Duke and UConn, but that certainly wouldn't exclude them from the tournament. They will probably enter the Big Ten Tournament as the 6 or 7 seed....meaning that they will likely play Northwestern or Purdue again in the first round. Are you sure that a loss to Michigan, win against Northwestern/Purdue, and then loss to the #2 or #3 seed will get them there?

OSU went 6-24 from 3pt land, they look like world beaters when they're hitting but, fairly ordinary when not. If they're to go far in the tournament, as a few have suggested, they better be more consistent. If that bad shooting night occurs in the tournament they won't be playing a Northwestern, they'll be done.

Pretty sure. Enough quality wins and RPI to get in. Probably no higher than a 10 seed if that happens. But I think they win in Michigan, win 1st round game, and get a #7 seed.
