So we'll pick in the 1st round and next in the 5th.

They aren't good drafters anyway.

They have a new scouting director.

Who must not be very smart if he chose to come to this organization in the state it's in.

Either that or the Cubs overbid again.

The abuse Hendry is getting on this board is way over the top.

Is anyone sure that Giles even WANTED to come play for the Cubs? Have the Phillies continued to insist on Z or Prior in exchange for Abreu? There is SO MUCH we can't know about individual players or GMs.

The biggest problem the Cubs have faced is that production from Sosa and CPatt absolutely cratered from 2003 in a way almost NEVER seen in the history of baseball. That's two huge holes that the Cubs could not have foreseen. If teams want Pie or Hill or Prior or Z for mediocre talent or aging ballplayers, I can see why Hendry has not made "THE BIG TRADE." If the Orioles are rational, then the Cubs have a chance of landing Tejada. Given the ownership, that might be a big IF.

Yeah, Cpatt was the reason we didn't win games last year. It was all his fault.

Are you just trying to be different or do you actually believe this stuff?

Dear Jim Hendry.

I hate you. Please go away and inflict your mind-boggling stupidity on some other team. You have ruined my entire summer of watching another suck-ass Cubs team. This team will probably struggle to finish .500 yet again. You have had a good hand in ruining Kerry Wood. We had the biggest window of opportunity in my lifetime of being contenders, and you made lousy move after lousy move and slammed that window shut. Sure, you brought us Lee and Ramirez, but your other moves have far counteracted those. Any man who gives Antonio frickin Alfonseca and Jose "0-for-4" Macias raises should lose his job immediately and never work in baseball again.

I hate you, and if I ever meet you in person I'm going to punch you right in the face.

Sincerely,

Me.

I defended HENDRY to the bitter end. Ask:

Goony

YearofDaCubs

ABuck

BBB

Whatever you wrote still does not justify, in any way shape or form, a 3 freaking year deal for Jockstrap Jones. If he signied him to a 1 year deal, i'd be upset, but not torching Hendry.

I'm not saying antyhing about Giles OR Abreau, just that Hendry is the absolute king of morons for this deal, in conjunction with the past two off-seasons.

I don't know what's worse...the fact that we lost all those picks or the fact that the two middle relievers were actually ranked higher than our starting right fielder and, as a result, the lowest pick will go to the Twins

Well caught. My mistake, you're in the right.

Hendry should've just auctioned off 162 1-game opportunities to start in right field as fantasy opportunities open to the general public, save the money, and use it to build a great team in 2007 (under a different GM).

There are 700 some odd major league baseball players. From the time Sosa left Chicago (or should I say got kicked out of Chicago), there have been a number of players available that would have made the Cubs better. Jacque Jones is not one of them.

It is hard to replace the unexpected lack of production from Patterson and Sosa, but not only did the Cubs have mega amounts of money to do it, but they had a plethora of minor league AND major league talent to do it.

Nomar for 1 year at 4m plus incentives in RF>Jacque Jones for 3/16m

We had guys here that would have been better options for cheaper, without going long term. Nomar can probably hit left handed better than Jones hits left handed.

But, you are welcome to your optimism. Unfortunately, you are definitely going to be in the minority on this one, so have patience with those of us who are currently losing our minds.

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

THE CUBS SIGNED JONES!!!

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

Who knows, it might work out just fine. (I'm just glad he's not a Cardinal)

Have you're fun but don't forget you guys will have "JRod" and So running around the OF. :D

Do you think the cubs have any chance of finishing ahead of the cards?

of course there's a chance :duck:

For what it's worth.

This move does not mean the Cubs have no chance to win next year.

What it does mean is they have very little chance of having a decent lineup next year.

They still have a chance for the playoffs if the pitching is ungodly good. That's just not a smart way to go into a season.

Trade for Tejada and there is some hope.

My line up with what we have:

1. Pierre

2. Walker

3. LEe

4. Aram

5. Barrett

6. Murton

7. Cedeno

8. Jones

Dusty's lineup:

1. Pierre

2. Neifi

3. Lee

4. Jones

5. ARam

6. Walker

7. Murton

8. Barrett

And who in their right mind was expecting big production out of Sosa in 2006 anyway. I was righting off 2005 already. 2004 was a steaper fall than expected, but this didn't come out of nowhere.

3 years for Jacque Jones? Who the heck was he bidding against, himself?

KC, and thanks to Dusty's wonderful skills, he only had to pay $1m more than the Royals offered.

So have we officially overpaid everyone we've signed? Exactly what good is Dusty Baker at this point? Because anyone could fill out a lineup card and rattle off cliches.

Haha. We had to outbid the freakin Royals. How sad is that? I hate this organization.

According to WGN radio, the Cardinals were also offering 3 years.

Yeah, he's being interviewed now. I'm tired of the obligatory "I want to play for Dusty Baker" response.

I'm just in complete agreement with this. If there was a worse option than signing Jones to a 3 year deal, I can't think of it.

Just...wow. Wow.

anyone else wanna bet Dusty hits JJ second behind Pierre?

Jones shouldn't hit higher than 6th (and I only say that because of his power). He strikes out way too much to be anywhere near the top of the order. My fear is he will hit 4th between DLee and Aramis.
