As if the night couldn't get any worse, I now have some stupid Beyonce song stuck in my head. I bet Hendry's responsible for that too.

Being serious. How did Hendry start sucking so fast? I use to think he was a good GM. Its like he started taking stupid pills.

It's like the Seinfield episode where George does all this crap trying to get fired by the Yankees, but the Yankees for some reason don't fire him. Hendry is doing his darndest to go out in a ball of flames, but the Cubs are too stupid to see it.

I remeber how optimistic I was when Hendry was named the GM and Dusty was named the manager.

What a difference a few years can make.

At least Hendry addressed the OBP problem. I would have rather him offered the sun and moon to Giles.

I hate to go all spaztic on people here, but JUMPIN' JEBUS of YESTERDAY'S NEWS, what the fraud are your problems? I understand 3 yr and $16 mill is WAY TOO MUCH for Jones, but let's face it the Cubs had NOBODY ready to play RF for atleast 3 yrs, and no Carlos Lee, or Cliff Floyd are not RFers. I hate the fact Hendry gave JJ the deal, but...it's not the end-all contract that will destroy the Cubs season. If JJ is used properly, he is worth the contract, the problem is....the Cubs won't know how to use JJ properly. But, I do think keeping Walker now becomes a priority, regardless of Hendry's "ability to catch the ball" theory. Jones WILL BE FINE for the Cubs, the negativity justs bums me out.

Seeing as there was no 'trade on the horizon' for a big bat like Dunn/Abreu/Huff (cause the Cubs don't have the parts needed) and the OTHER choice for RF was Juan Encarnacion....who would you rather have? You don't have the info on what players are available, and regardless of what the media says....I highly doubt Tejada, Abreu, and/or Huff are TRULY available. I do think, 3 yrs and $16 mill is abit much, but stop overreacting, cause you people reaction makes me wanna go and watch "Glitter", to which I really don't want to.

What is with Carrie Muskat's article?

(Jones is) expected to start in right field, move Patterson to bench

The Chicago Cubs may have finally completed their outfield.

The Cubs announced Tuesday they have signed free agent Jacque Jones to a three-year, $16 million deal. Jones could fill the vacant right field spot and join new center fielder Juan Pierre, acquired in a trade from Florida, and rookie left fielder Matt Murton.

Honestly I thought he did a bad job last offseason but he was good before that so I didn't think much of it. But IMO I think offseason has been far worse - the Cubs have spent a lot of money with nothing really to show for it. I'm not trolling, I'm shocked that this is happening. I use to think Hendry was a good GM.

There are 700 some odd major league baseball players. From the time Sosa left Chicago (or should I say got kicked out of Chicago), there have been a number of players available that would have made the Cubs better. Jacque Jones is not one of them.

It is hard to replace the unexpected lack of production from Patterson and Sosa, but not only did the Cubs have mega amounts of money to do it, but they had a plethora of minor league AND major league talent to do it.

Nomar for 1 year at 4m plus incentives in RF>Jacque Jones for 3/16m

We had guys here that would have been better options for cheaper, without going long term. Nomar can probably hit left handed better than Jones hits left handed.

I'm just in complete agreement with this. If there was a worse option than signing Jones to a 3 year deal, I can't think of it.

Just...wow. Wow.

We could have called Keith Moreland out of retirement...

As disgusted as I am by this contract, the sad thing is, if you go back over the last 20 years, we haven't had too many better OFers. To name some off of the top of my head...Moreland, Dave Martinez, Darrin Jackson, Chico Walker, Doug Dacsenzo, Marvelle Wynne, Willie Wilson, Brian McRae, Doug Glanville, Lance Johnson, Brant Brown, Damon Buford, etc...

Jones is about par for the course for our average outfielder over the last 20 years, and better than average if you take out the Hawk and Sammy.

Well, at least we can make funny French surrender jokes about our OF when the Cubs are out of it. In May.

They could have gotten Encarnacion for one year. Now, they'll pass in the next two offseasons at the opportunity to get a big corner OF bat, because they have Jones. That's why this is so bad. Encarnacion is a wash with Jones, and wouldn't have hamstrung us for future years.

He can catch the ball though right?

And I like Tree's idea, I'm going to take mine now.

Yeah, Jim, defense really is the key to victory. Try to sell that when we're 10 games under .500 on June 1st.
