Not sure if this has been posted but found this via mlb.scout.com.

Towards the bottom it mentions that Shawn Green will be traded soon and probably to the Cubs. Now I know this has been gone over ad-nausem, but just wanted to point to another source that seems to believe he will accept a trade to somewhere other than the 3 West Coast teams he outlined.

So pretend this is to happen. Thoughts/feelings?

Myself, I like this better than anything else I have been hearing for RF. This would be even better if it means we'll still have enough prospects to potentially get Tejada.

Best that could possibly happen with the news we've heard. I don't know why that guy thinks it's such a given that Green will be traded, much less to the Cubs, when he has a no trade clause.

If true and assuming the Cubs don't overpay for him as far as players given up, he's a better option than the recent names mentioned.

You know what you'll get from him and he can be a decent 5th hitter in the order.

Green is decent enough to be of help to this team. I just wonder where the 4th and 5th OF will come from. I'd almost say you'd have to keep Corey (to sub for Murton on occasion) and then find a RH OF bat because Green should sit against lefties whenever possible. He's Burnitz esque against the southpaws.

Hendry's love affair with Pie+Hill are going to lead us straight to last place-I can't believe I'm hearing the name Jacque Jones-such a typical Cubs move-flounder around in mediocrity when the Cards Juggernaut and Jocketty pull off solid move after solid move year after year-They have been too quiet and that makes me nervous-Jocketty is NEVER quiet, maybe because he is a top 5 gm in the league-wish we had one of those.

Watch-we sign Jones and they'll get Abreu for Marquis+Reyes+prospects or something vomitous- I really can't understand how Giles was not on the radar-just imagine if we focused our Furcal love at him and signed him-then the Pierre move looks tremendous and call it an off season-

It's kind of cute how you forget who the manager is.

I remember. It's more like ignoring than forgetting.

But actually, Dusty sits his regulars quite often. He played Burnitz far too much, but I think that was partially because he felt he had no other option. If you get a decent enough RH bat off the bench, I think he'd love to sit a guy like Green on a fairly regular basis.

What about Conine?

You have a platoon of Green and Conine, you get the productive platoon and the versatility of a player able to play both LF and RF as well as the IF.

The bench probably looks like...

Conine

Patterson

Perez

Mabry

Blanco

Hairston

Conine would start 100 games on this team.

Didn't he sign already?

Looking at splits he doesn't hit lefties all that well either.

I doubt Baker would start him over Murton.

Nope, he's still a FA according to ESPN.

Will Pitt. non-tender him and what his trade value?

Posted
Patterson would almost have to be included in a deal for Green... especially since they're probably our best bet to trade him, anyway. I still don't see why Green would accept the trade when he's expressed an unwillingness before. And yes, considering this source guaranteed Soriano and Furcal in two, separate, $100M deals... I'll remain very skeptical of any credibility to this.

Well, maybe not 100 times, but he's start 50 games easily.

Which is around 30% of the time, almost that of a natural R/L platoon like the one he would have w/Green.

Since I like quoting myself, Pitt. likely has Wilson slated as their starting Rf'er since they missed out on Mueller which restricts Pitt. as far as shifting players.

Shawn Green? Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes

(sad how far we've fallen, but I'd welcome him with open arms. I might even spend money on the Cubs next year)

According to SI's "Truth & Rumors," the D'backs have an offer in to Kenny Lofton. Would seem to make Corey a much less desireable trading chip.

Not a bad option at all if he's available. Maybe AZ will be hung over from the Chris Young acquisition that they won't demand too much.

Vance- I'm not that familiar with the scout.com sites, but it looks like he writes a bunch of baseball articles, so probably.

Good deal. Shouldn't Green's numbers improve a little moving to Wrigley & the NL Central?? Am guessing Patterson & a young arm could be dealt to get him. That would be a nice move by AZ, as they cut some payroll and Patterson could finally turn things around.

He'll start for Murton 50 times, the Green platoon (which wouldn't happen at all) would be seperate.
