I doubt that, i don't see how you want a platoon and someone mentions a viable option and you cast it off.

How can you want someone decent and then expect him to start over Murton?

Well, I said it would be nice to have a good RH platoon option with Green, since he can't hit lefties.

Conine is not a good right handed platoon option (he doesn't hit lefties all that well), he's really old and will probably be worse next year than he was this year, and he'd be a perfect candidate for Dusty to use in place of Murton far too often.

What I'd like is a player more like Murton, young and right handed, who wouldnt be a risk to get undeserved playing time over another young OF. In fact, what I'd really like is another LH corner OF, and then let Murton get in 400 PA between LF and RF.

Holding your breath would be unwise considering the avail. options.

Idealism doesn't mesh well w/limited resources.

Regardless, I'd steer very clear of Conine. Under different circumstances he'd fit the bill, but not with this team, as it stands.

Then who? I fail to see a point in making a blanket statement with no viable productive options.

The only other potential option is Marrero. Hidalgo isn't productive enough and the rest are looking for starting jobs.

How enamored is Oakland with Bradley or Kotsay? I would think one of them ought to be available for the right price.

Compared to Green or on a separate stage? How many resources would they have to get someone like Green and Bradley/Kotsay?

As far as comparing Green to Bradley/Kotsay? Good question, depends on what is req'd to get them.

A, where was there a blanket statement, and B, don't take it personally that I didn't like your idea of Conine.

You know who I'd like for that role, Kelton. He could give you decent production against LHP 200 times a year. Of course, that ain't happening. That should be a role for a guy like Mench, but people want to make him a starter. I don't know his status, but Craig Monroe is an unacceptable everyday corner OF who does hit well against lefties.

A guy talked about before, Reggie Sanders could do some damage, but he's also a risk to take away time from Murton. Marlon Byrd has disappointed as an everyday guy, but he would be a decent 4th OF on a team that needs a bat against LHP.

The blanket statement was they need somone to platoon Green with no names mentioned..

Ideally, someone like Mench or sanders would be great but, Texas will set his value as a starting corner OF'er as what is to be looked for in return and Sanders will be looking to start as well.

Byrd and Kelton, would be ideal, but does Kelton or Byrd merit a ML role at this stage? I would say no, and it would be better to get a more proven commodity who has versatility and has lefties well enough to merit starting against them over the other half of the platoon.

Of course, I think Baker would see Conine as a bench player 1st and you happen to think he'd use him over Murton too often, which I disagree with.

Hendry's love affair with Pie+Hill are going to lead us straight to last place-I can't believe I'm hearing the name Jacque Jones-such a typical Cubs move-flounder around in mediocrity when the Cards Juggernaut and Jocketty pull off solid move after solid move year after year-They have been too quiet and that makes me nervous-Jocketty is NEVER quiet, maybe because he is a top 5 gm in the league-wish we had one of those.

Watch-we sign Jones and they'll get Abreu for Marquis+Reyes+prospects or something vomitous- I really can't understand how Giles was not on the radar-just imagine if we focused our Furcal love at him and signed him-then the Pierre move looks tremendous and call it an off season-

my god, shut up.

Wow, if that's your attitude towards somebody who is expressing their dislike for their off-season and rightly so, maybe you should follow your own advice.

No, that is my attitude towards somebody who is being ridiculous and needs to shut up.

Although, I guess he is kind of right. I mean, Giles really should have been on our radar, and the fact that he signed back with San Diego for much less than what he could have gotten doesn't lead me to believe that he wanted to play there and only there at all!

That's uncalled for.

Do not ever tell another poster to shut up. You're certainly welcome to disagree with somebody, but you are not welcome to tell them to shut up.

Not only do I disagree with what you said, I disagree with the whiney way that you put it, and I think it was in the wrong topic. I find that blaming Hendry for "losing out" on a player that had no desire to play anywhere but San Diego to be incredibly........"bad". That or you had no real facts to back up your claim, so you used that to make it seem more legit. Of course, if you do that you have to realize that Jockety actually was interested in Giles too. HMMMMMMM... I guess that makes him a bad GM too, eh?

Green would be nice in RF. But if we are going to trade with Arinona, I'd like to see the Cubs make a big splash and get Green and Quentin/Jackson/Tracy. One of them is bound not to fit and if we take on Green's whole salary plus throw in Patterso for their CF hole, along with some other payers, it might just work. Has to be worth a try, at least, and if you fail, you settle for only Green.

Patterson

Dopriak

Novoa

Marmol

Sing

(You could shift prospets around depending on who they like, thats just o I'd offer)

FOR

Green-paying full salary

Quentin(would seem likely)

Then Murton/Green/Quentin become basically a 3-way rotation between LF and RF.

Yea, I know, I'm dreaming.
