if i had studs in cf and rf, i'd consider non-tendering him...especially if you're in a payroll crunch. of course the cubs look to have question marks in lf and rf, so keeping patterson around as a backup isn't a bad idea...especially if the cubs have the $.

Something stinks. There is no way CP is the starting RF for this team. This is Hendry's way of saying "we're not giving him away for scraps." I think it's a little late for that, though.

I'll affirm that thinking. Hendry is alot more astute and aware of the personalities and abilities of the ball players on the Cubs than any of his critics on this board IMO. Everyone is entitled to their opinions of course, but I'll listen a little longer to the guys in the "industry".

Well THAT makes him not only astute, but normal.

Well, at least Hendry has sent a message to teams thinking they could pick him up for next to nothing after a nontender that they are barking up the wrong tree.

I'd rather keep him too. I'm not so sure about playing RF. But, he can catch the ball.

If the Cubs exhaust their search for a left-handed hitter, they could sign Washington free agent Preston Wilson to a one-year deal. Wilson's agent has informed the Cubs they're his top choice and that he would love to play for Dusty Baker. But the sides haven't spoken since before the winter meetings, and Wilson remains a secondary option.

I think you're right. Hendry might have no intention of starting Patterson in right, but he's smart not to let every other GM know that.

This thinking is consistent with what he said last year about potentially trading CP. He's not going to give him away.

why can't someone good  love  to play for baker?

because the only people who love Baker are shi**y veterans who won't get playing time anywhere else, and are guaranteed to start regardless what they do?

If we're going to keep Patterson around, why not sign Richard Hidalgo to be a platoon partner.

He often gets frustrated when he can't find the secret passageway, ultimately leading to his failure to catch the ball.

Tejada (or Arod) better be at SS if we're going to have to watch a platoon of Patterson/Hidalgo in RF.

As of the end of the '05 season, Corey officially became one of Dusty's type of ball players. He swings at everything, no strike zone judgement, doesn't clog the bases by walking, has decent power, and the dude can catch the ball. I think Dusty is behind trying to bring him back, so he can hit right behind Neifi in the lineup.

No way Patterson will be the starter in RF - Hendry is just playing the game. But I wouldn't non-tender him either - his value is at a low ebb now, but he could be a good 4th OF and if he has a decent rebound season, a very valuable trading chip.

I think we should change the thread title to "patterson will be tendered" because I hate double negatives.

now back to your regularly scheduled thread.

Good to see they'll bring him back, but still think he's gone. Wilson for a year in RF wouldn't be horrible. He could put up an .800 ops, which is alright for a 6 hitter. They need to zero in on Tejada.

Sounds to me like Hendry is giving up. Typical. He's been overmatched for this job from the beginning. In the article, THEY'RE ALREADY TALKING ABOUT 2007, FOR CRIPE'S SAKE!!!

This is a total train wreck. There is no hope for 2006, and the organization doesn't give a damn. Unbelievable.
