I want Bradley because we can get him for Patterson and a bucket of balls, and he is an on-base machine. And since we are pretty sure that all the Cubs' players can deal with black people, I think he'd be a good pickup.

After the racial overtones in those French riots, do you think he'll be able to work alongside Pepe Le Pew?

Bradley seems imminent, from Jayson Stark:

The Cubs and Dodgers haven't finalized a deal that would send outfielder Milton Bradley to the Cubs. But it seems clear that Bradley will be traded in the next few days, and no team is more interested in Bradley than the Cubs. Dusty Baker came away from a meeting with Bradley last month convinced that Bradley could fit. And Bradley's .350-plus on-base percentage the last three years also would fit. Only two Cubs regulars -- Derrek Lee and Aramirs Ramirez -- had an on-base percentage over .350 this season.

I like this move a lot. Plus, we need some of the fire that he brings to a team... until he calls Kerry Wood a racist.

that would bring a ton of fire to this team. LOL

I wouldn't be surprised to see Bradley and Floyd to tell you the truth. Then Murton backing up LF and RF with Bradley playing CF when you give Pierre a break.

Rotoworld is reporting that the Blue Jays and Rangers are in talks to trade Wilkerson for Orlando Hudson to fill Texas' hole at 2nd.

With Hendry's love of Mench and our love of Wilkerson, how about Jim talks about a Walker/Patterson for Wilkerson/Mench swap?

Why they going and messing up a good trade? Hudson's decent, but Wilkerson's much better.

I read somewhere that the Rangers rejected a Patterson for Mench swap so that part of the idea might not be possible.

I'd take Hudson over Walker if I were the Rangers.

Corey Patterson - OF - Cubs

The Rangers reportedly rejected an offer of Corey Patterson for Kevin Mench.

Of course they did. It's as like as ever that Patterson is on his way out of Chicago. The Cubs might end up non-tendering him. Dec. 8 - 3:49 pm et

I think this may happen. Will Carroll thinks the Cubs are close to getting Bradley. Pierre, Bradley, Floyd with Murton in for Pierre against lefties. Someone had suggested this some time ago.

Floyd doesn't do well against lefties. A Murton / Floyd platoon would be a very good LF indeed.

I may be reading you wrong, but there's no way the Cubs traded for Pierre to platoon him.

I read it that way too, but my understanding is that Floyd/Murton would platoon LF, and Pierre and Bradley would play everyday.

If I had the choice, Murton would platoon with both Floyd and Bradley, because neither is a likely 600 PA guy.

Pierre hits lefties better than righties.

According to the splits from last year.

For his career he has a very similar AVG/OBP against both, but has 40 more points of SLG against RHP. Career .040 IsoP against LHP, that's staggering.

Am I the only one here who still wants to see Murton get over 400 ABs?

No, I do as well unless we can somehow secure a Bradley/Pierre/Abreu outfield.

I want to maximize offensive production. If you get a stud RF, you can settle with Murton for a good 600 AB. If you get a second tier RF, you pretty much have to find somebody who can at least platoon with Murton. If you told me he was a guaranteed .300/.350/.450 or more, I'd give him all the AB he could handle. But he's not a guaranteed anything, and since the Cubs have settled for nominal improvements elsewhere, they need bigtime corner OF help.

I agree with everything you wrote. However, I do believe that Murton will put up the line you propose.

I think a Floyd / Murton platoon for Murton's first full year in the majors is not a bad thing. I'd bet Murton would make a great PH as well.

He will hit .300/.350/.450. I GUARANTEE it. Murton does not need to be platooned with ANYBODY. In at around 160 AB last year he had an OBP above .380 and 7 HR. I think it is very likely he can hit atleast .350 OBP and produce 20 HR or more. I'll bank my name on this.

I think it's possible, but I'm hardly ready to bank the 2006 team's fortunes on it, given all the weaknesses of the rest of the lineup.

Well, if you gurantee it I guess we have nothing to worry about.

We don't, trust me. 8)

Murton is going to be a strength of our team, not a weekness. No use wasting more trading chips and payroll on a lesser OF than Murton. Use that money where it is really needed, a SP.

And I really wouldn't say it that way. We really do not have ALL that many weeknesses in our Line-up. All we are really lacking is a power OF for RF and a good SP.
