From Roto:

Even though the Cubs failed to sign Rafael Furcal, Todd Walker still might not be in their plans for 2006.

Speaking yesterday, GM Jim Hendry made it sounds as if Jerry Hairston Jr. is ahead of Walker on the depth chart. "Hairston played well in the second half last season," Hendry said. "If we start tomorrow with [Ronny Cedeno, Neifi Perez and Hairston] and do a good job of shoring up the outfield, I'd be OK with that." The Indians are among the teams that could be interested in acquiring Walker. Dec. 5 - 12:39 pm et

HAIRSTON!?!?! Yay! How long until 2007?

This organization is a joke. Only we would have a 2.5 million player who hit .300, got on base at a .370 clip, hit 15 homers, was a decent fielder, and be trying to do everything we could to get rid of him.

More to the point, why on Earth would you deflate Walker's value with comments such as this?

Does anyone have anyway to put a positive spin on Hendry's approach to moving Walker?

Because, I just don't get it.

Gotta clear room for Neifi, dude. He's got to take his cuts sometime.

Todd Walker is infinitely more valuable than Perez. Only Hendry would race to sign the worthless while making the valuable feel unwelcome.

Not only that, one who is a left-handed hitter. Why can't Hendry just pencil in Twalk at 2nd and Ronny at SS and address the real needs on this team? It's maddening.

More terrific maximization of player value by Mr. Hendry.

Sammy and now Walker....I don't understand either unless Hendry feels like he has to justify these moves for the fans. Just not good business.

In the words of my Manager:

"What kind of ####ing ####off opperation is this anyway!!!!!"

Hendry makes me want to draw pictures on my skin with rusty razor blades.

Got room for one more?

I have heard some RIDICULOUS statements by this organization, but that one is a serious contender for the top spot.

Well I'm surprised no one pointed it out, but when I read that quote the first thing that jumped out to me was that hendry said "Hairston played well in the second half last season". I thought to myself, well it sure didn't seem taht way so I looked up his numbers...

His pre ASB stats are right about where I would have expected him to be, which are numbers I can be happy with. But he stunk it up big time the second half. This truly makes you wonder what Hendry uses to evaluate players. I guess he must have missed 2 less signs in the second half or something.

It would seem what qualifies as doing well for this franchise is simply playing a lot. (see: Perez, Neifi, also: savior)
