We haven't had a decent Dunn thread in awhile, so I thought one was well overdue. Plus I was reading this article in the Cincinnati Post about how the Reds will be exploring ways to improve their team during the Winter Meetings.

"I don't think you can focus on the outfield situation, because at this point there are a number of different avenues with our position players that are available to us," O'Brien said. "It's basically a matter of looking at what would bring us the best possible package of talent in return. Whether or not that involves an outfielder remains to be seen. ... Sometimes you've got to have flexibility in considering moving people around the diamond to different positions."

It appears the Reds will trade the players or player that will net them the most in return. Folks, that player is undoubtably Adam Dunn.

The only concern is whether the Cubs have enough in the cupboard to get him.

I'd overwhelm the Reds with quantity: Williams, Mitre, Wellemyer, and Dopirak for Dunn.

The Reds will respond with demands for quality. They'll bring Pie into the discussion. Your next step?

I'm not opposed to giving up Pie in a deal for Dunn, but it would have to be something like Pie and Mitre.

If adding Pie to that proposal lands us a deal, then I say "it's a Dunn deal." (sorry, couldn't resist)

Vance,

I read somewhere that the Reds are shopping Casey - it was either to the Red Sox or Dodgers. If they moved him, Cincinnati would just move Dunn over to 1B, correct?

Yeah, I read the Red Sox are looking at Casey. And yes if they move Casey, they could slide Dunn to first.

Of course, would trading Casey bring enough to improve their horrible pitching?

I really don't think they can get that much for Casey, though. He's in the last year of his contract, and is owed 8.5 mill, right? The point is that he alone won't bring in much pitching. And do the Red Sox have the pitching to give? (I'm asking; I really don't know)

the thing about casey is that he is the team captian and the "face" of the franchaise. I'm not saying they wouldn't trade him but he is very popular. They would have to get a good return on the trade to make it work for the fans.

Most people know, I'm not really a Dunn fan, but...it seems to me...Hendry REALLY wants to add a LH RF to the Cubs lineup. My guess is that he will look into Dunn, Abreu, Huff (no thank you), Wilkerson, Junior (prolly moreso then Dunn because he can....you know...catch the ball), etc... My only hesitation is CF, who would play CF if Pie and/or Patterson were dealt? The Cubs don't have another long-term answer (and no I don't consider Greenberg, Fuld, Bacon, Walker long-term answers) CF in the organization. So I would hold off trading Pie for a stud RF, unless the Cubs have a plan to acquire a young long-term CF.

I'm going to say something that will probably pee alot of people off, if i can get a quality corner Of and poss a SP of the highest quality i play Pie in CF bat him 7th in the lineup and expect nothing from him. If he gets on base not only can he steal but you can play some hit and run with cedeno at 8th. I suggest this because i think we need more than just a leadoff hitter now that furcal hasn't signed. I then sign a player to back up Pie or keep patterson for defensive situations. I know i'm going to be told its too early but we need a shot in the arm and the braves never seem to be afraid of letting the youth be served.

Lineup.

2B walker

LF Murton

1B D Lee

RF Dunn/Abreu/Manny

3B Aram

C Barrett

CF Pie/Cpatt/Hairston

SS cedeno/Perez

Looks like the Cardinals may jump in before we get a chance. They're looking to add Kearns. That would allow them to keep Dunn. Hendry needs to act fast.

Austin Kearns - OF - Reds

The Cardinals and Reds have had discussions involving outfielders Austin Kearns and Wily Mo Pena.

Cards GM Walt Jocketty might be willing to part with Jason Marquis, but it's unclear how much interest the Reds would have in a pitcher one year away from free agency. If the Reds want to go younger, they could target Brad Thompson and Adam Wainwright. Anthony Reyes is likely unavailable. Dec. 4 - 2:15 am et

Take Eric Milton off their hands, and I think the Reds are more willing to deal Dunn. I think they will take every chance to deal Kearns, Pena, Casey and Griffey first though.

I agree, but won't Dunn make between 8-10 mil this year? If there are no takers for Griffey, then will they be forced to move Dunn?

I thought the same thing, but someone a while back felt that 10 million was way more than he'd get in arbitration. I guess it's closer to 8, but that's still a lot for Cincy.

Dusty is annoyingly finicky about RF throwing arms. I can't see him being happy with Dunn/Murton at the corners.

Sign Nomar (lol). The Indians supposedly are interested in Nomar for RF.
