So then we COULD have

Lugo SS (OBP/SPEED)

Walker 2B (OBP/SOME POWER)

Lee 1B (OBP/DECENT SPEED/POWER)

Bradley CF (OBP/DECENT SPEED/SOME POWER)

Ramirez 3B (OBP/SLUGGING)

???? RF

Murton LF (OBP/SOME POWER)

Barrett C (OBP/SOME POWER)

Depending on who you get to fill SS/RF gaps it could be a very solid team.

Throw a couple more arms at Tampa and get Lugo and Huff. Done.

We land Lugo and Huff then Bradley and I will be one happy camper.

Do you guys think Tampa will be more reasonable than during the season when they were supposedly asking for Z before talking about Huff?

Their GM Lamar was fired, so, yes.

Refresh my memory.... Was that before or after Johnny Gomes introduced himself to MLB? With Baldelli due back, Crawford locked up and Gomes looking like a budding star, Delmon Young needs to be promoted SOON, and then toss in Gathright into the mix, they are nice and full in the outfield. Huff made 5m last year, which is just about out of Tampa's budget. Zambrano is not someone that Tampa would easily afford either, and they aren't getting him anyway.

Tampa needs pitching and we have it. Tampa would probably want one of Scott Moore, or Dopirak in the deal along with arms, as 3b, 2nd and 1st is probably where they could use the most help outside of pitching. But, for Tampa, it should be all about pitching, pitching and more pitching. We have it. Jerome Williams, Roberto Novoa, Todd Wellemeyer, Mike Wuertz, Will Ohman, Ricky Nolasco, Rich Hill, Renyel Pinto, Bobbie Brownlie, Jae Kuk Ryu, David Aardsma, Sergio Mitre, Bobbie Brownlie, John Koronka, Luke Hagerty, Jon Connolly, Sean Marshall, Raul Valdez, Carlos Marmol, etc.....

Who do they want? A nice fit for both teams. Let the Dodgers or Braves pay 12m a year to Furcal. Heck, Tampa can fit all 3 of our needs offensively. Gathright, Huff and Lugo. We could throw in one of Corey Patterson or Hairston Jr. and pay part of their contract if they didn't want pitching.

If I'm Hendry, I'm heading straight for the Tampa GM on Monday.

Hell, if we're dealing with Tampa let's see what they want for Delmon. =P~

Whatever it is Tampa would want, the Cubs don't have it. :D

OK, makes sense to me. Lets go do it!

Huff in the OF is a defensive disaster. If the Cubs get him, they better put him in LF. Having him in RF would not be pretty, imo.

And Hendry has mentioned quite a few times this offseason that he will be focusing on trades to fill holes rather than FA signings, so it works on that level as well.

Hence the reason why...Huff won't be mention as a possible target for the Cubs. I'm not all that high on Huff ( :-k ), cause he is an AL player...ie DH. Hendry wants "guys who can catch the ball", and Huff couldn't catch a cold, much less a baseball.

I haven't seen him play the outfield, so I can't make any judgments on his defensive ability.

He did play in 95 games in RF last year. He had a comparable fielding percentage to Burnitz (.984/.986). Burnitz had 5 assists in 158 games. Huff had 6 in 95 games. Must be range that concerns people.

Huff may not be a great fielder, but with that collection of outfielders, it's amusing the list of jokes they ran out at first and third, considering Huff plays both positions.

What if he traded for Lowe and Bradley and then turned around traded Zambrano for Abreu?

NO FREAKING WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There's only a few untouchables on this club this offseason: DLee, Aramis, Zambrano, and Prior. Everyone else is fair game in my book for the right deal.

Untouchables are overrated. I'd trade anyone for the right deal. Would you seriously turn down Arod for DLee? I wouldnt. Or Dlee for Vlad and Chone FIggins. I'd do that so fast it'd make heads spin. EVERYBODY is available for the "right price"

Lee shouldn't be an untouchable, IMO. His year could have been (and may still be) of great value on the trade market.

Mind you, I really like the guy, and am not looking to run him out of town. But, with the Cubs in need of lefty power (Helton?), the fact that 1B is position with some prosepects in the organization, and the market generally easier to fill at that position right now, I would have inquired into moving him to sure up the OF.

Yeah, but there is no way Abreu is worth giving up Z, if only b/c of age.

I wouldnt do that deal either, but the fact remains. If it improves our team. I'd trade anyone.

Does Drew have a no trade clause? What if rather than taking on Lowe's contract, the Cubs gamble on Mr. Glass? If Milton and Drew managed to stay healthy, the offense and defence on the OF would be spectacular. I know, I know...big if...

I don't know where the "Huff is a defensive butcher" myth started, but I suspect its people who've never seen him play. The numbers and visual observation don't bear it out. He's no Roberto Clemente, but he's a perfectly average corner OF, with an above-average arm.

Those numbers bear out that he's decidedly subpar. BP2005 categorizes him as a "high-quality hitter with a low-quality glove".

And STATS and most scouts I've seen say he's perfectly adequate. BP is, well - BP. Consider the source.

Alot of people put alot of credibility behind BP. I don't think they're any better than, say, Peter Gammons, but that's a topic that could be widely debated.
