Reading the Charlotte.com Panthers message board, a lot of ppl are counting on being able to get their revenge against us in the playoffs. Not sure Jake would be too excited about that.

From the ESPN Primetime Live Chat:

Ricky (Dallas,Tx): Hey Rick, What do you think the Bears chances making it to the Super Bowl?

RICK SPIELMAN: They will definitely make the playoffs but Orton is not good enough to get them to the Super Bowl yet.

josh (tremont, illinois): Rick, if Orton messes up late do you think Lovie will go with Grossman to finish out the year...barring Grossman is healthy?

RICK SPIELMAN: I've said this th last couple of weeks - they need to stick with Orton - Grossman has not done anything yet

I'll be rooting for you guys the rest of the way. This Bears team reminds me a lot of the 2003 Panthers, and that's obviously a good sign. The Bears have a very solid team, and if they can come with it against Tampa and the Falcons like they did today, we could see HFA for the Bears.

Good luck to the Panters the rest of the way too. We will prob need their help with them knocking some teams off for us.

By the way how is a tie breaker for HFA? Is it points allowed?

pretty sure its head-to-head then its record in the conference.

I mean what if the Bears and Giants tie who has home field advantage throughout?

this is according to NFL.com on how to sort a tiebreaker:

Two Clubs

1. Head-to-head, if applicable.

2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.

3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four.

4. Strength of victory.

5. Strength of schedule.

6. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.

7. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.

8. Best net points in conference games.

9. Best net points in all games.

10. Best net touchdowns in all games.

11. Coin toss.

I wonder if they've ever gone beyond 6

Hmm so would the conference thing matter if the person you are tied with isnt in your conference? If the Bears tie Dallas or the Giants I dont think they have played the same 4 teams so it would be strength of victory then if Im not mistaken.

Dallas and the Giants are in the Bears conference. I'm just hoping the Bears can be the 3 seed and host the bottom wildcard in round 1. Anything above that is gravy.

I remember in Week 17 back in the 2000 season, Carolina and New Orleans took it to tiebreaker number 4, so we had to scoreboard-watch while trying to beat the opponent (not sure who it was). NO ended up winning the tiebreaker, but Dallas, who had the tiebreaker on us and the Saints, later won to bring an anticlimactic end to that.

The BEARS and Dallas are in the same conference, you know.

Awesome. I think the Bears have proved they are for real. What a job by the defense today. 8 sacks on a team that had only allowed 12 all season before today?

LOL yea I was thinking division instead of conference. My bad I think the beer might be getting to me after this win.

If the playoffs were to start now, the Bears would be the 2 seed. Unfortunatly they don't start yet.

And you guys don't have an easy road left, either. At Tampa, at Pittsburgh, vs Atlanta still left. If you go 2-1 in those you'll get home field methinks.

Well we beat the Ravens, and the Ravens beat the Steelers, so that means we automatically beat the Steelers right? No need to really even play the game...

I like your philosophy lol. Well Big Ben will be back for that game so it wont be the same team that lost today. However, I think we have a chance in all 3 of those games. I think our D is going to rattle Simms pretty good. The Steelers will be a low scoring game, and ATL doesnt impress me all that much. I think if we pressure Vick he will throw some picks and the speed on our D should help contain his running hopefully.

So who are we behind in the conference? The Giants?

It'll be a good race to see who cliches 1st between the Bears and Colts.

If the Bears go 2-4 in their last 6, GB will have to go 6-0, Detroit will have to go 5-1, and Minn depending on what they do tomorrow night will either be down 2 or 3 games and if they lose to the Bears would face a similar scenario as Detroit.

After they lost to Cleveland, I would have never imgained this.

Please forgive me if this has been posted but, I believe Rex Grossman, as soon as he's ready to go, should be given back his starting job. Orton has done an OK job but, he's too mistake prone and has had the defense bail him out on way too many occassions. I also believe the offense will improve under Grossman to a point where it may be taken seriously in the playoffs.

I agree on all counts.

There's been lots of discussion about this, but why mess with an unknown quantity? Grossman has started fewer NFL games than Orton now, and Orton is on a 6 game win streak with this team. You can't tell me for sure what kind of quarterback Grossman can be...no one can. We just don't know. Grossman should remain the #2 behind Orton as long as Orton is winning games. You know what you're going to get with Orton. The 5 INT game not withstanding, he's not going to LOSE you games. We just don't know that about Grossman yet.

Let it be open competition in camp next season of course though.

Yet, under Orton the offense has shown no vertical improvement, the running game has been great but, at some point the passing game is going to be counted for a win. I don't believe its capable of such a feat.

Do you not think that the Bears passing game today showed improvement? Orton looked far more accurate, and if the recievers catch some of those drops, the game isn't as close as it was.

Do you think with Grossman in there that Lovie is going to decide that this is a passing team? They're going to run the same safe short passes and let the running game be the main offense. It's a team philosophy.

Orton was on in the first half. he should have been well over 250 yards passing (probably over 300) with 2 TDs if certain receivers would stop dropping the ball. his accuracy beyond 20 yards is improving.

I like Rex, but we're not desperate at QB. Orton is doing enough to win. This is a running team anyways.
