MSU is the most talented, but they will get ABUSED on the inside by White and Killingsworth. White should be back by the January 11 game, shouldn't he?

 

I'm reserving judgment until Trannon gets back in the swing of things.

 

Is Drew Naymick still starting on the interior?

 

I like Trannon, but I don't know if he's good enough to keep up with White and Killingsworth. Naymick is a less talented Nick Smith, and that is really saying something.

 

Suton's really been coming along. Naymick is starting, but Suton is superior at this point. Also, Gray is a great athlete that's developing as a rebounder.

 

I think Trannon's a good enough rebounder and defensive player to slow up Killingsworth, once he gets back into basketball form. He'll probably foul out in 20 minutes doing it, but I think he can.

 

EDIT: Tonight is a big test facing Dudley and Smith from BC. Should be a nice measuring stick to see how Suton and Gray are coming along as interior players.

No kidding. It's annoying enough that they get the best talent every year, but then they also get luck to win a home game against an average opponent. It's like when the Yankees get lucky, they really don't deserve it.

also Northern Iowa beat Iowa in OT tonight. A great night for the Missouri Valley Conference.

I think Davis and the team must have ready Andy Katz's article after the Duke game:

 

If the Hoosiers are truly a new breed, they must prove it against Eastern Michigan on Saturday as well as against archrival Kentucky on Dec. 10 in Indianapolis -- a winnable game in a rivalry that has been one-sided of late, with the Wildcats winning five straight with Davis on the sidelines. The Hoosiers also must still go to Charlotte, and then, in the middle of the Big Ten season, host potential Final Four team Connecticut on Feb. 4.

 

 

No mention of ISU and I think they had spent their time getting ready for UK and forgot they had a game to play last night. So Saturday should be interesting since we aren't sure which IU team will show up. If it is the team that played Duke then they should stay in the game and at least have a shot to win. If it is the team that played last night get ready for Mike Davis' "Head Thumpin' Part Deux".

That's been the m.o. of Davis' tenure at IU. He can recruit, no one can deny that, but he just get out-coached in almost every game.

I didn't really get to see Monroe play at Auburn too much, but I've been pretty unimpressed with him so far. I was really looking forward to the UK game. Now...not so much. So far they've been in two close games down the stretch, and have pretty much performed horrendously on both occasions.

Yeah. Monroe started off not turning the ball over and making the right feeds. Now, Calloway looks more impressive. Strickland can't disappear like that, just like Bracey couldn't the last few years.

Jon, has that caused his horrid performance in college?

I doubt it, but you never know. Unless his performance has really been hampered by his heart condition, from all that I've seen, he just isn't that good. He doesn't fit at all in the Princeton offense and is unable to do anything in one-on-one situations. And he shoots 50% or worse from the charity stripe. Last year, he missed a lot of time with a foot injury. He supposedly worked really hard this offseason to learn the offense, but he never really got out of the gate. He played just two or three games before the heart condition forced him to the sidelines. Still feel bad for him, of course. He left Duke to get playing time and quickly lost that to Vince Scott, a guy who has absolutely no presence in the paint. There was plenty of speculation that he wasn't going to last on the team that long, anyways. As long as this doesn't threaten him outside of the basketball court, at least he's getting a free education. It's certainly not how he envisioned his college career coming out of high school, though.

 

EDIT: The team issued a press release saying that Thompson is no longer on the team. They did not mention any reason, though. The Pioneer Press broke the story on his heart condition today.

ND is leading 19th-ranked Bama 38-24. Colin Falls is 5/7 from 3, including one that was about the funniest shot I've ever seen in my life, because he had to pass the ball on an inbound and get it back and shoot in about 3 seconds, with highly comedic results. :lol: :lol: :lol:

Naturally, Bama coming back from a 20-point deficit and are now within four now that ND can't shoot threes anymore.

 

Ball State struggling a little with IUPUI, only up 1 with 13 mins left.

Notre Dame wins 78-74! :D Absolutely huge win for the Irish, who would have fallen below .500 if they'd lost. But they walk into a top 20 team's place and win. Really nice.

well, the illini win unconvincingly again, and this time at the AH against a somewhat decent hoya team.

 

this team has no go-to scorer, although jamar smith reminds me of luther head as an upperclassman at this point.

 

to the illini's credit, georgetown DID have a very large dude in the middle who was blocking a ton of shots, and they did a good job of getting the ball inside, finishing was their problem.
