Figured we could have one thread to focus on this year's college basketball season...

ND and Ball State combined for a 3-0 record in exhibition play, which is of course not altogether surprising. The Cardinals will be led by Peyton Stovall, the leading returning scorer in the MAC this season, as well as a host of transfers (D'Andre Peyton, Chris Ames, Landon Adler, Charles Bass) and highly touted freshman Maurice Acker. ND will be led once again by Chris Quinn and Torin Francis, as well as Rob Kurz, Russell Carter and Colin Falls.

NU opens up at the BCA tomorrow night. I'll be happy if they don't go 1-2 in a tournament and blow their shot at the NIT like they did last year.

well, Illinois has about the worst non-conference schedule I've ever seen.

North Carolina, Oregon, and Xavier are all good teams. The rest well not so much. But, hey we are in reloading mode.

North Carolina is not that good and xavier and oregon? Well, their tournament teams at least, maybe. Are any of them even ranked? The Illini should enter the Big Ten unbeaten - then things get tough in a hurry.

North Carolina in North Carolina is a good game oh and Georgetown is a tourny team as well.

Mizzou opens with a Preseason NIT game against Sam Houston State. Hopefully they win and play Princeton/Drexel at home in the second round. A win in that game sends Mizzou to the Garden for a showdown with Duke(barring Duke getting upset).

Michigan State travels to play Hawaii before attending the Maui Invitational. There they face Chaminade and if victorious get the winner of Maryland/Gonzaga. MSU also hosts Georgia Tech before the end of the month.

IU opens Friday. A tough non-conference schedule got tougher with the loss of D.J. White for 6 weeks. He should be back for Big Ten play. The biggest game non-conference is Duke in Bloomington on Nov 30. They also play UK, @ Charlotte, and UCONN (in February).

Fixed.

well what about Kansas who doesn't play a road game. Well I guess they are in the maui invitational, but come on Billf try to get the freshman ready for roadtrips into OU and OSU.

AJ Ratliff is also out. And what happened to Wilmont? Is he on the team still? The other big men have played well in the preaseason. Ben Allen and Sean Kline in particular. It'd be nice to have PE Jr right about now. But I am encouraged by the PG play. 5th year senior and JC transfer JR.

Funny the team that started anywhere from 3-to-4 freshmen each game last year will start three 5th year seniors, and a 4th year SR at the beginning of this season.

Still waiting to hear about Morris and see how long he's suspended for. I'm looking forward to UK on more fast breaks, maybe one or players have as much quickness as Rondo. Sims has done well in the exhib. games, but as they adapt to a quicker tempo the turnovers have increased as well.

Self Doesn't make the schedule, the AD does.

Regardless of where our games are played, we have a pretty tough schedule.

In Maui, we'll play #9 Arizona, then #2 UCONN or Arkansas (probably Arkansas). Our noncon also includes St. Joe's in NY, Cal in KC, and #25 Nevada and #10 Kentucky in Lawrence.

Keep in mind, our the avg. age of our players is about 12.

Anyway, I wouldn't expect to see KU take too many non-con road trips in the near future, unless it's against a premier team. Our AD is really money focused, and there's too much money to be lost playing mediocre teams on the road. Kind of lame, but I guess that's the way things are now.

I haven't looked at DePaul' schedule, but with a new coach and no more Quemont Greer, I think they get OWNED by the Big East

i'll be going to the NIU-DePaul game here on the 28th.

i think the pollmakers have Illinois right where I think they should be. IMO they are around a 20th ranked team in the country as of now. Beating UNC in UNC is never an easy thing, so that's definitely going to be Illinois' toughest challenge of the non-conference schedule.

ND is one of the three teams DePaul plays twice. ND also plays Providence and Marquette twice. That's a big improvement on the TV-conscious, murderous slate that had us playing Syracuse, UConn and Pitt twice every year.

We should have a good Kentucky vs. Iowa matchup in the Guardian's classic next Monday.

Has UK figured out their frontcourt situation yet?

before attending the Maui Invitational.

worst tournament ever

What do you have against Maui? It's usually one of the best preseason tournaments in college basketball.

Plus it gives us all an opportunity to see Chaminade in action.

your young guys, rush in particular looked pretty damn good against Fort Hayes. He gets whatever shot he wants which is an NBA player already.

illinois playing at UNC would probably be harder if UNC hadn't lost it's top 7 scorers from last year. They are struggling to just field a team right now, and will be VERY young.

Yes, but since I don't like UNC, they'll somehow field a good team and go to the Sweet 16 anyway.

I really dislike the Heels...

Morris won't be playing, Sims will likely start at the 4 and Crawford at the 3.

It'll probably be Shag, Sims, and Crawford.
