With Giles STILL on the market, is it a good idea to spend money like it's going out of style (overpaying for bench players Rusch and Neifi), then realize later you HAD the money to sign him, but you don't anymore?

Hendry couldn't wait til Thursday to see if both his beloved possessions would leave (for less money of course)

What an incompetent buffoon.

seriously.

for the first time since i can remember, i stopped watching the games in september this year.

since it appears we'll be out of it even sooner next year, i probably need to find a new hobby.

Say "hi" to Neifi for me.

Tell him I hate him.

Why the hate?

It's a joke. Anyone who's ever seen the Futurama episode where they go to the slurm factory knows what I mean.

"Who are those creatures?"

"Why, those are the Grunka Lunkas."

"Tell them I hate them!"

Hendry is overpaying for known quantities and trying to 'play it safe' with unknown quantities. That is why the Cubs haven't won a World Series in 97 years. Playing it safe....

The worst part of this is that the known quantities that Hendry overpays for are almost always known for the wrong reasons. Playing it safe is one thing, but handing out $5 million contracts to the dregs of professional baseball is pennant poison.

I had an old teacher who always used to say "take care of your pennies and the dollars will take care of themselves." It seems Hendry lives by an opposite credo: He avoids handing out lage-scale contracts to free agents who might actually improve the team but has no problmes giving away a stray couple million to players who just deepen the hole the Cubs are already in.

My patience with Mr. Hendry is on extremely thin ice right now. If he doesn't do something really special during the next three months I'll lose faith in him altogether.

Hendry is going to do all he can to trade Walker.

Why? Why? Why? I am beyond frustrated with this organization especially after today's absurd contract for Perez, but I still have no rational understand of why the Cubs are so hellbent on tradind Todd Walker. If constantly talking to the media is the only reason the Cubs want to trade him, I wish Todd Walker well and I know he'll be playing for a better organization.

It's looking like this for 2006:

C Barrett

1B Lee

2B Neifi

SS Furcal

3B Ramirez

LF Macias/Murton (mostly Macias)

CF Patterson

RF Encarnacion

Season over.

If I knew that Perez was playing short and batting eighth, Walker at second and batting second, I could live with this and hope we could get productive OFs. But my faith in Hendry and Baker is zero. Can an outfield of Preston Wilson, Jaun Pierre and Jerry Hairston be in our future?

Hey Bruce...

Murph on The Score 670 mentions you claim that the Cubs are interested in trading for either Adam Dunn or Bobby Abreu. He also says that Phil Rogers thinks they will in fact, sign Furcal. In addition, Rogers writes that the Cubs are extremely interested in trading for Carl Crawford or Pierre.

Thoughts?

The Cubs will be interested in signing Rafael Furcal for $9 fricken million and refuse to shell out $2 million more to sign Giles.

The Cubs sign Rusch for $3 million and Perez for $2.5 million. That's a whole lot of suckage right there.

Cubs are [expletive], and their stupid need for a "leadoff hitter" is going to become so redudant when all is said and done this offseason, because right now I'm thinking Furcal, Pierre, Cedeno/Walker will all be in the lineup.

Maybe it's Bruce trying to get Hendry to do something smart.

Are you sure they were talking about Bruce Miles and not Bruce Levine?

I wish we were all a little more connected to the decision makers. Maybe we could pull a Karl Rove and start influencing the decisions.

I doubt The Score would be referencing a guy that works for a competing station.

I have an autographed picture of George H. Bush....does that give me any pull? Darn, I didn't think so.

Someone mentioned Macias playing in Left some earlier in the thread...Please tell me we don't still have HIM under contract TOO.

I mean...with all the Rule 5 guys we've got coming up we fill roster space with this guy....does Hendry remember from whenst he came? Just 2 short years ago he wasn't earning a spot on colorado's 25 man roster and now he's a 5 million dollar man....Wait till next next year.

I have one of myself and George W. I wonder if that will connect me to Cheney and Rove. Then we'll see what I can do with Hendry.

Rove has CIA contacts...they remove people from power anonymously...maybe Dusty and Hendry will 'disappear'.

Abreu makes more sense for Hendry/Baker and the Trib than Giles. Of course, they'll have to shell out players for Abreu.

Abreu's 3 years younger. Abreu has more speed. Dusty loves speed. Abreu only has 2 years left on his contract. That's HUGE. The Trib likes short contracts and am sure they're a little concerned that Giles could break down in years 3 and 4 of his contract.

There's just no way it happens. I just cannot see it happening.
