I like Crawford a @$^% of a lot more than Pierre.

Coupla reasons:

*Crawford gets almost twice the amount of Extra Base Hits

*Crawford is 4 years younger

*Crawford is a much better baserunner. Over the last 3 years Crawford's SB% is .8290 and Pierre's is .7368. And Crawford has only stolen 7 less bases.

*Although Pierre's OBP is higher, Crawford has only scored 11 less runs over the last three years.

*Crawford makes almost six times less than Pierre

*Crawford grounds into less double plays. Over the last three years, he's grounded into 10 less double plays.

*Crawford bats more runners in. Over the last three years, he's batted in 53 more runs than Pierre

Bruce any chance you can get Hendry to do a Q and A with us?

Yeah. I could just see some of the questions now:

How the hell did you give Neifi a 2-year contract worth $5 mill dollars? ARe you on crack or something?

I would just ask him to justify thinking that Brian Giles will be overpriced, when he's overpaid 2 players that are completely redundant by a factor of 5.

I'd also ask him if he's on crack. :P

He probably overpays for the crack too.

Crawford has also been surrounded by a pretty bad offense before this year.

Ah, let's use career stats for some of the more indepth stats...

#P/PA

Crawford: 3.37

Pierre: 3.42

G/F

Crawford: 1.58

Pierre: 2.67

SB%

Crawford: 82%

Pierre: 74%

BB/PA

Crawford: .043

Pierre: .061

Um...is it me or would the Cubs be replacing Corey Patterson with a slightly more patient Corey Patterson with less power if they got Crawford?

Crawford is likely to be very, very costly in terms of young talent if he's even available.

Pierre should be cheaply obtainable.

The thing is, if we weren't getting Furcal, I would be all about Pierre as a leadoff man, but assuming we do get Furcal, having Pierre is kinda redundant whereas I think Crawford would be a huge addition.

EDIT: That is true about Pierre being cheaper. He just came off a pretty miserable year. I just really like that Crawford is a better baserunner. His SB% is astounding.

All the more reason his numbers are impressive?

Actually...this is starting to make me want no part of Crawford.

IsoD

Patterson: .041

Crawford: .031

BB/PA

Patterson: .048

Crawford: .043

AB/HR

Patterson: 31.1

Crawford: 65.4

#P/PA

Patterson: 3.41

Crawford: 3.37

Pass on Crawford. While I think Crawford would be a bit of an upgrade over Patterson due to various issues with Patterson and the fans as well as Patteron's strikeouts, I'm not seeing significant evidence here that indicates the Cubs should give up the talent needed to acquire Crawford.

The Devil Rays have too many outfielders as it is. That is a good place to look for a potetial Outfielder. They have Crawford, Huff, Gomes, Baldelli, Delmon Young, and Joey Gaithright. Crawford and Young are definitely off the market but the other three are possibilities. The Cubs should really take a hard look at Baldelli. He can play any of the three OF spots, has speed, and has some pop to his bat. Since he was out all of last year with a torn ACL he is kind of on the outside looking in.

Who would bat leadoff then?

Pierre or Furcal?

I would assume pierre bats leadoff and furcal second, as pierre usually has a higher OBP and less power than Furcal.

at least neifi wouldn't bat any higher than 6th. :D i could live with that. getting pierre is worth it just for not having neifi in the 2 hole.

Neifi gets $2.5 million in each of the next two years. Walker, ostensibly a starter, will get $2.5 million next year, wherever he plays.

So, that spanish language report of the $1 million signing bonus was incorrect?

Thanks but now I'm confused. Hendry said that Perez and Cedeno would battle for 2nd base. Why is there no mention of Walker Bruce?

I think you can guess the answer to that. They have every intention of trading Walker.

Are there any takers? And for what?
