Neifi gets $2.5 million in each of the next two years. Walker, ostensibly a starter, will get $2.5 million next year, wherever he plays.

Thanks but now I'm confused. Hendry said that Perez and Cedeno would battle for 2nd base. Why is there no mention of Walker Bruce?

I think you can guess the answer to that. They have every intention of trading Walker.

That's what I expected but I was hoping it wasn't true I suppose. You must be incredibly professional to not ask Hendry if he's lost his mind. You're a better man than I am.

It's Walker's fault everybody. Hendry only likes guys who can catch the ball. Hitting the ball doesn't factor in, unless you count hitting into double plays.

How else are you going to get rid of those basecloggers?

Yeah like Lee.

if (when) walker is traded, he is going to tear the cubs a new one...you can book that. 1) he said that if the cubs were going to trade him, he'd rather they didn't pick up his option so he could choose where to play 2) he's a loudmouth 3) he no doubt (correctly) thinks it's crazy to play neifi instead of him.

should make for some good quotes.

he's the one guy w/ a bit of a tude that the cubs weren't able to unload.

once he's gone, it's going to be like a church choir in that clubhouse. next up, 115 wins. and bundles of hugs.

Bruce,

If Walker is being shopped hard, is it to Texas for Soriano? If not, then for who?

Soriano doesn't "catch the ball" any better than Walker.

But the scout in Hendry has to love Soriano, and maybe Hendry evisions a middle IF of Furcal and Soriano, with Neifi and Cedeno backing them up.

Didn't Walker request that if the Cubs had plans on trading him, that they not pick up his option?

Who cares. He should have thought about this a year ago. Walker's not the sharpest knife.

#1. You didn't answer my question.

#2. If you don't know the answer, why are you responding?

#3. I care. If you don't like it, don't respond.

I'll answer:

Yes, I believe Walker did request that. However, I think Hendry's doing the proper business thing by picking up his option, and then exploring all options.

So the Cobs have no culpability because Walker didn't stick to one year deals or demand a no-trade clause?

Hendry knew about Walker's defense when he signed him. It's Hendry who isn't the "sharpest knife." What a moran!

Now is as good of time as any to trade walker..his value will never be higher. Plus, its hard to say that trading Walker is a bad idea when you don't know (yet) what the Cubs will get in return.

Texas likes walker and pattersen.. why not try this trade..

Texas gets:

Walker 2b

Pattersen OF

Hill P

Philly gets:

Blalock 3B

Cubs get:

Abreu RF

Why would Texas EVER do that for that collection of Cubs' mediocrity?

As a side note, how did the Cubs come by Walker in the first place from the Red Sox? At the time the Cubs had Grudzielanek at 2nd base. Was he brought in as a utility man and was it a trade or FA signing?

He was brought in, according to Hendry, to back up 2B, be a left handed complement to Grudz off the bench, and even couple "play a little LF and 1B".

I haven't seen any Hendry quotes regarding the Neifi signing. Did he really say that Cedeno would have to battle Neifi for the 2B job? If so, we are doomed, because the outcome is pre-ordained with Dustbag at the helm.

Why must we be so tortured? Someone just pay the Trib, buy the team and clean house. Enough of this crap.

I don't disagree with that. Even if the best option was to extend him and trade him. But, resigning Neifi at the same time you have basically extended him just blatantly disrespects Walker in every possible way.

He took less money to come here, and he took less money to stay here. He's been nothing but loyal to the organization and he's been everything expected of him. By signing Neifi, they've just kicked Walker where it hurts. Now, if they kept Walker and signed Furcal, and Neifi was just Walker's back up, that might be something entirely different. But, all indications are that Walker's days are numbered.

Something tells me that player relations on this team are traveling further south than they already have been.

That's exactly right. He came to Chicago knowing his job wasn't guaranteed. He gave up the chance to have a guaranteed job elsewhere. And he took less money to do so.

if Texas is a fool and sees Patterson as what everyone thought he would be, they could see value there. Hill is a guy they wanted at the deadline as was walker. Don't they have another 3b prospect in the minors they are high on..
