Wow, this may be funnier than the Castilla-Lawrence deal. Man, my dad's a Dodger fan, he's gonna hate this news. Even if it doesn't happen, it doesn't exactly bode well for the franchise that they believe Bowden's the answer.

Hahahahahaha.

I just heard a report on espn radio that said that the Dodgers want to make a run at signing Jim Bowden away from the Nationals. I just don't get it....

Hey, he just robbed the Padres of a decent starter and money in exchange for a guy who stopped being good five years ago. Not a terrible idea. Although I can't believe they wouldn't at least entertain chasing Theo.

hahahhaha, that's great...

BTW.. did anyone else hear "George isn't at home, just leave a message after the beep... I must be out or I'd pick up the phone..." after reading the thread title??

This is the same guy that gave Christian Guzman a 3 year, 12 million dollar contact last year.

IMO Bobby Valentine is going to be the next Dodger manager.

He's been offered $12 million for 3 years to stay in Japan but I think you could be right.

You're probably right. Valentine is a Lasorda favorite. From what I heard, it's Lasorda who wants Bowden as well.

Cooll, now hire Kenny Williams as the Assistant GM, Isiah Thomas as a consultant, Dusty Baker as your manager, and become the 2000's version of the Cubs

They have contacted Epstein about being the new GM. It sounds like Epstein is taking his time deciding on his next step.

LA Times[/url]"]Epstein, seeming every bit the tortured artist, said cryptically that "if we get to next week, that'd be a more appropriate time for me to listen to what other teams have to say."

The Dodgers are trying hard to keep the search secretive. Their only official comment came in the form of the following release:

"There are a number of highly qualified candidates for the GM position and no shortage of people who have expressed interest. While this will remain a confidential process, we are making considerable progress."

Among those who have expressed interest in the job are former Cleveland and Texas GM John Hart, Washington GM Jim Bowden and White Sox special assistant Dennis Gilbert. Internal candidates could be assistant GM Kim Ng and vice president of player development Roy Smith.

The Dodgers want to hire Orel Hershiser — the former star pitcher and current Texas pitching coach — in some front-office capacity. Hershiser is very close to Hart, who hired him as an associate GM in 2002 with Texas. Hershiser also pitched for Cleveland when Hart was GM, helping the Indians to the World Series in 1995 and 1997.

The Dodgers also need a manager, and their top candidate is sending guardedly positive signals. Bobby Valentine, whose Dodger ties and friendship to Tom Lasorda are well-chronicled, said he considers the Dodgers his dream job. However, he is still managing the Chiba Lotte Marines, who won the Japan Series last week and are preparing for next week's Asian Series.

The Marines have offered to extend Valentine's contract to about $4 million a year, a figure that almost certainly is out of the Dodgers' range.

McCourt said when he fired DePodesta that a manager won't be hired until a GM is in place. He also said he wanted both positions filled quickly. Now, though, the Dodgers have paused to guess about Epstein's intentions.

If he isn't interested in the opening, why wouldn't he just say so rather than string the Dodgers along for several days?

If he is interested, why would he risk them becoming impatient and hiring someone else this week?

Speaking of Valentine, did anybody see this ridiculous article? Link

Not only is he proposing a true global championship series, he actually thinks the Marines can win. Crazy? It's anyone's guess, but Valentine told the Associated Press that after watching the White Sox and Astros on TV, he's sure his Japanese players would shock their major league counterparts.

"I can tell you the level of play is equal," Valentine said. "[The Marines] are as good as any team I've ever managed. I'd put them up against the winner of the World Series and I know we'd win at least a couple of games."

Since you name the thread "Believe it or not", I thought I just add this (for those young kids, who don't know this song, it's from a tv show call "The Greatest American Hero".

Title: "Believe It Or Not"

Written By: "Mike Post and Stephen Geyer"

Performed By: "Joey Scarbury"

Look at what's happened to me,

I can't believe it myself.

Suddenly I'm up on top of the world,

It should've been somebody else.

Believe it or not,

I'm walking on air.

I never thought I could feel so free eee eee.

Flying away on a wing and a prayer.

Who could it be?

Believe it or not it's just me.

It's like a light of a new day,

It came from out of the blue.

Breaking me out of the spell I was in,

Making all of my wishes come true ue ue.

Believe it or not,

I'm walking on air.

I never thought I could feel so free eee eee.

Flying away on a wing and a prayer.

Who could it be?

Believe it or not it's just me.

Enough with the sillies...Dodgers want Bowden  :-k ? Why not going after one of Bobby Bowden's sons instead. I know they are football, but they would know more about baseball then Jim Bowden. What wasn't Dan Duquette not answering his cell-phone? Or what, is the ESPN's Baseball Tonight job to cushy for Steve Phillips?

Believe it or not,

Please leave a message at the beep.

I must be out, or I'd pick up the phone.

Where could I be?

Believe it or not I'm not home.

I thought of that song too but figured it would be too cruel to bring it up! :D
