Not since Bill Buckner did it 25 years ago, has a Cub won the NL batting title.

He finished the year batting .335, the highest in the majors. Practically from wire to wire, Derrek Lee lead the National League, heck the Major Leagues in batting average this year.

Let's give it up to DLee for having such a stellar season.

Here are some other numbers from Derrek's season. Pretty impressive.

ChicagoSports.com[/url]"]After a sizzling first half in which he hit .378 with 27 home runs and 72 RBIs, Lee cooled somewhat, hitting .287 with 19 homers and 35 RBIs after the All-Star break. Still, he also led the league with 50 doubles, 199 hits, 99 extra-base hits, a .662 slugging percentage and 393 total bases, while finishing second with 46 home runs and 120 runs.

Thanks, DLee, for making the Cubs fun for short stints at a time.

Thanks for driving that pitch from Billy Wagner straight into the bleachers to give the Cubs the lead vs Philly ... before Hawkins bounced it off Jose Q's helmet in the 9th for the loss.

Thanks also for hitting that home run to win it vs the Mets on a day when that cold winter wind was howling in so furiously that I didn't think anyone could hit it out. Ryan Dempster's first save appearance and first blown save (and yeah, of course, he ended up winning that one even though he took the line drive off his arm).

Thanks for beating up on the Reds a few times. Always fun to see.

Lee rocked this year. It's just a shame he never had anyone on base ahead of him.

Congrats Derrek on a masterful season. You were the best player in baseball this season. If you don't win the MVP trophy, it's a disgrace. You deserve it. And I will always remember the 2005 season as the YEAR OF RODAN!

Of course, as a Cub fan, I'd love to see DLee win the MVP. But you'd call it a disgrace if Pujols won?

Great player, class act. His hitting REALLY came through this year, and it's always great to have a 6'5" guy at first when you had Walker at second, Nomar at short, and Ramirez at third heaving the ball across the infield.

Thanks for the great season.

Thank you, Derrek Lee. Without you, the Cubs would have been completely unwatchable.

Thanks again. What a great season. Here's to hoping he wins the MVP and somehow stays at this level for the next few seasons.

Hey now we still have the coolest pitcher ever in Z. But, yeah if we didn;t have DLee we would have got last in the division and a top three pick.

Derrek Lee...the reason I still paid attention when the Cubs were down to the Reds 7-2 in that magical game in April. :D

And the reason I kept paying attention even after it was clear we weren't going anywhere.

Thanks for making me smile even when there was very little to keep my spirits up, Derrek.

Thank you DLee! You are everything I could ask for in a Cub. You are a talented player who carries himself with class on and off the field. Mr. Wrigley once lamented, 'If only we could find more ballplayers like Ernie Banks.'

Well for my money, you are the most Ernie-like Cub since Mr. Cub himself. Class, joy, integrity, talent. Thanks again DLee!

I'm not saying, I'm just saying. . .

How many of you will still have your loving views of DLee if he starts off slowly next season? How many will gush about DLee if he puts up a .880 OPS, .285 avg, and 28 homers?

Baseball has always been a what have you done for me lately type place.

His attitude makes up for a slight regression next year IMO.

I liked Derrek a lot in 2004 too and that year he was at best the Cubs' 3rd best offensive player. As long as he doesn't completely stop hitting I will always like Lee.

I dunno, the Hawk still got a lot of love from Cubs' fans when he returned to his normal numbers in 1988-1991

Andre had a .303 batting average in 1988 I can see a lot of people actually thinking that Dawson was close to the same level as he was in 1988 despite the loss of home runs.
