seems like the best course of action, even though i'm not happy we're going to end up with some scrub for dubois...

I doubt that. But I'd imagine Murton will see slightly more playing time if he gets called up than before.

I like the fact that they are going to get rid of some useless vets and try to get the rooks some playing time, but Dubois for Yankees PTBNL....I don't like that one bit. At least Jim Hendry can still use Dubois as one of the farm products the Cubs have produced

hmm...i liked dubois for a near .400 obp a lot better than dubois for yankee leftovers. if dusty continues to insist on sitting murton, release hollandsworth.

shut wood down while you're at it, please.

So we essentially dealt Jason DuBois for a (likely lousy) minor league PTNBL?

In fairness it was Dubois for a month of Lawton to try to make a run and then a PTBNL. I'm more indifferent than upset. I'd probably feel worse about it if Jason were tearing it up in Cleveland. Or if he wasn't going to be 27 next spring.

Edited to fix typo.

The only thing that makes this trade look bad is the production of Lawton, everyone thought it was a steal to send Gerut for Lawton. Lawton didn't produce and it diminished his trade value, I can't fault Hendry for the scenario of events. Ultimately, he does take responsibility for the moves, but the thought process involved can not be questioned.

I don't think a productive Lawton makes or breaks this last month compared to what we saw.

It's about time. Hendry needs to run up a white flag so big even Dusty will be able to see it. I would also like to see Hollandsworth and Burnitz moved ASAP. Neifi too, but that's probably a pipe dream.

Obviously, it seems bad because you could say we dealt Dubois for a PTBNL, but you could also take it one step further to the offseason, where Lawton could have left via free agency, and say we dealt Dubois for nothing at all.

I don't blame Hendry for making any of the three deals that led to where we are now. We were still in the Wild Card race at the trade deadline, Lawton could have been the catalyst we needed at the top of the order. It hasn't turned out that way, but Hendry can't see into the future, and it's not his fault the team is underperforming.

He's doing his best to get something for players while he still can.

It's too bad we traded Lawton and not Burnitz in the deal, because, if any, Lawton's the guy we would have wanted to keep around for next season (Assuming he would have ended up playing similar to his career numbers, specifically OBP).

I know alot of people on here wont like the suggestion, but i think that trading walker may be a good move. The twins have been looking for a 2b all season and they have some good prospects, if the Cubs could get some good prospects for him i think they should consider moving him.

I'm against trading the third best hitter on the team when we hold an affordable option on him.

Then the Cubs would be w/out a 2B (Hairston is not an everyday starting 2B), the Cubs have an option on Walker for next year, they should utilize it. He's underpaid for his production and is the only hitter on the current 25 man roster who can hit 1-2 in the order effectively.

This year is over, but 2006 isn't. who can they get to come near his numbers at $2.5 million this offseason? He is a productive player with a great contract.

Who can't turn a double play according to the Cubs org. Reading between the lines of all of the recent press, the Cubs are trying to get better defensively, that probably means Walker's time with the Cubs is done.

If they get rid of Walker, it'll likely lead to less production from a more expensive player. Which might be par for the course.
