He has nothing to be bitter about. The Cards will have two straight division championships after this year. He is telling the truth, sorry if it hurts sometimes.

Sorry, but he's not "telling the truth."

Z has a history of doing immature things that hurt the team. If he did quit on the team today than that qualifies as another. Don't see any other way around it.

Yeah, a history that includes NOTHING FROM 2005. NOTHING. His ejection on Opening Day was after he was taken out of the game. Zambrano has done NOTHING this year to hurt this team.

First of all, pardon me if I am not overly impressed by going almost going a whole season without doing anything. However, I thought I remembered him throwing at someone earlier this year and being lucky not to get a suspension.

If it turns out that he did not quit then I retract the comment. But from what I have seen it does not look good.

Wow, Pat and Ron really giving it to the Cubs, but there are saying nothing that isn't true.

What are they saying? I don't have the radio on.

They said that our entire offense was slumping together. And that we couldnt even score runs against below avg pitchers. They also mentioned that our defense has been horrible and if we have another losing streak like this one "That will be the end of the 2005 Chicago Cubs" (Pat).

Okay, somebody tell me the full story please.

I know Z walked off. Just give me the facts we no with no opinion involved (i.e. he's a crybaby, he is awesome for doing it)

looks like lee's front shoulder is flying open. . . pulling off the ball a bit. .. . . . not good at all.

c'mon, DLee. . . . youda man. . . . a 2 run homer would be nice!

I think hisshoulder is still bothering him, plus he just looks gassed. He needs a couple days off, it's not like it's going to hurt much at this point.

Boy, I picked a bad week to take vacation. And to think it started off on a good note with the ninth inning rally against the D-Backs last Friday. Since then, it's been all down hill with no end in sight. Heck, we used to at least be able to count on Prior, Z, D-Lee and A-Ram, but it seems like even they have succombed to this wasteland that is the Cub.

I'm sure glad the Bears start tomorrow night...

He said Zambrano is a baby, but he's shown this season that he's not. He's matured greatly from how he used to be - what the card fan said was completely biased by the fact that he's a cardinal fan who obviously hates Zambrano.

I don't recall him throwing at anyone earlier this year. The only suspension he avoided was after Opening Day.

You have to believe that Hendry is having some major heartburn problems these days. He may think the world of Dusty Baker, but the heat in the kitchen HAS to be getting hotter and hotter with each day here lately.

good im happy what Z did. The lineup tonight was an absolute joke and there's no way this team is coming back down 4 runs. Hopefully an 0-6 record in NY this year will be the beginning of the end of the Dusty Baker era.

Happy? This is the kind of this a guy gets shipped out of town for... You win and lose as a team. Bush league

Now Dusty's making excuses for Zambrano (now I know he left on his own). "His back is hurting him." BS!!!

Actually, Dusty's apologizing for his players has come back to bite him in the arse. Sometimes players have to be accountable.

Well, I'm sure he'll address it after the game. Do you really expect the manager to bust the guy out on TV after he's left the game? I wouldn't... I can see a manager pulling someone out of agame to make a not so silent point but saying Zambrano quit on the team infront of a national audience doesn't make much sense. What should Dusty have done? I think under the circumstances he handled it well. To be honest, ESPN tried to bait Baker by asking that question... Did you notice the ackward silence after Dusty's answer? They were sure if they should challenge him. Thankfully, they left it alone.

I don't think that anyone should be called out on TV, but he doesn't need to be so apologetic and make excuses. Sometimes the guys should have to answer for their actions.

Let's bring a little reality to this, can't we. In the workplace, how often do you get managers/bosses/whoever coming out and giving you the honest to God truth, especially in a public arena? Not too often. If Z did in fact quit tonight, I'm sure it was a real blow to Dusty, and I'm sure he didn't feel like sharing it with the rest of the world.

It has to be and if it isn't the match will light soon enough. I'm pretty certain the Cubs fans will boo the heck out of this team next time they come home. I think for the most part a lot of already know that Baker should be done with.

I thought the 8 games streak was nearly the end, but then they won quite a few. This looks almost worse than that streak, IMO. We are losing to worse teams, The offense is gone, the defense is gone, Dusty's managing is worse than ever, the fundamentals are as bad as I've ever seen, Derrek is hurting....it's a complete mess.

He should have heartburn since he has part responsibility in creating this mess.

Come on, did you guys actually think we would get swept by the Mets? I sure as heck didn't. THings are that bad right now.

Now that it appears the the Cubs season is in fact over, who will you guys follow, if anyone, the rest of the way? I'll be rooting for my second favorite team, our brother in misery to the east, the Red Sox. As much as I respect the way the White Sox are playing right now, there's no way I can root for them.

(This isn't to say that I won't be pulling for the Cubs, I just won't give the team nearly as much time/energy since they clearly don't deserve it.)

Be happy guys, more losses only mean Baker's gone.

I'm not too sad, only because if we went to the playoffs, we'd get destroyed by better teams.

Just dance, drink and cheer for the opposing teams, only because it means Baker is THAT much closer to getting booted.

Maybe carlos did hurt his back and didn't handle the situation very well, but there are a lot bigger problems then that. Case in point 2/3 of our outfield are not major league starters.

I agree.

It's not like Z would be the type to leave the mound and say "hey coach, my back hurts and I don't think I can go any more."

He's a firey guy who'd most likely get pissed off at himself and do what he did.

Maybe the "throat slash" just meant "I'm finished."

Like others have said, those 80 pitches in only 3 innings are tough on a guy.

no one makes a big deal if a pitcher says to the coach that he is done. In fact there was a big story last year about how dusty pretty much lets maddux decide when he's done. Just cause Z chose a poor way to let larry know doesn't mean he quit on his team. He didn't have it tonight, threw alot of pitches for 3 innings, may have had a tight back or bad toe, and packed it in....I don't see it as a revolt against dusty or quitting on the team...everything doesn't have to be such a drama scene...

Maddux is an older pitcher and in a different class. Under normal circumstances you have to pry the ball out of Carlos' hand; I can remember specific games this year when he was actually hurt and they had to force him out of the game...

He, alone, doesn't get to dictate when he pitches. I can see a pitcher conversing with the pitching coach and the two of them deciding he's had enough but it was very apparent by what I saw that Larry was both surprised and unhappy. Carlos didnt even want to talk to him. He walked off. I'm disappointed. Losing is one thing but openly giving up is another.
