does anyone know why gerut is in? i mean, seriously, can anyone explain this? did dusty forget that Halsey is a lefty?

He didn't want Ohman leading off the inning in a 1-0 game and Murton batted last. It's either him or Hollandsworth in that situation.

Gerut just doubled.

Doubleswitch with Gerut in for Murton

It's a smart move, he double switched for the last guy to hit.

What's the eye roll about? I'm one of the biggest dusty critics here, but who would you like him to have switched out?

Maybe Walker for Perez, but really don't have too much of a problem with the switch he made.

Agreed and the reason for the lefty/lefty matchup is because with Cedeno starting only Macias & Blanco are left as RH on the bench

Cubs playing for one. Never like giving away free outs that aren't your pitcher, though.

Cedeno, make Dusty look smart.

Ok.

Diamondbacks offense, vs Cubs Offense. Who wins?

Both are equally pathetic.

Cubs lead by 22 runs this season. They also have a BA that is .018 above the D-backs and a SLG that is .038 above. The D-Backs have a slight (.002) advantage in OBP. I'd say the Cubs offense is better.

You know what I don't get? We are ahead of the White Sox in OBP, SLG, and BA, but they have seriously outscored us. What's up with that?

Sorry for this in the middle of a game thread, but... A bit of luck and timely hitting? BP's combined stat of equivalent average accounts for hitting and baserunning and can be converted into equivalent runs. By this metric the Cubs are a better offense (7th in ML), but have scored 23 fewer runs than expected. The Sox have the 2nd worst EQA in the ML, but have scored 23 runs more than they should have with that offense. This is part of the explanation - though execution may play some role!

White Sox lead MLB in Sacrafice Flys with 36. Cubs are 26th with 22. They get it done with a runner at 3rd and less than two outs. Cubs don't. (usually Pose after getting a hit and stealing... he's perfect on the season when stealing 3rd base... something like 17 for 17)

EDIT: Thanks Cedeno for proving my point! :x

Terrible at-bat by Cedeno there. You gotta make contact. :x

Gotta be patient there. He wasn't, and swung at balls 2 and 3.

Maybe with such a terrible AB Dusty will want to keep playing him. It seems to work for Hollandsworth..

So pinch hit for him, it's not like Ohman is staying in to pitch the seventh. It just reeks of overmanaging to me. Obviously it worked out, but still, its odd.

I know he was lights out in the minors, and I know he sits around a lot which doesn't help, but I am just not one of the huge Cedeno supporters yet...maybe next year I guess I will get sold on him.

Not like his platoon buddy is helping much...

What does that have to do with anything? The discussion was just Cedeno not putting the ball in play with a man at 3rd and 1 out.

No one was saying he shouldn't play.
