Still not a fan of giving away free outs at the top of the order, especially with a runner already in scoring position.

At that point, you're hoping for the Cubs to essentially give away 2 free, specific outs, or that the Diamondbacks' C-P combo messes up. I'd rather just have an extra chance for a hit, as a single to the OF scores the run from 2nd anyway.

does anyone know why gerut is in? i mean, seriously, can anyone explain this? did dusty forget that Halsey is a lefty?

He didn't want Ohman leading off the inning in a 1-0 game and Murton batted last. It's either him or Hollandsworth in that situation.

Gerut just doubled.

So pinch hit for him, it's not like Ohman is staying in to pitch the seventh. It just reeks of overmanaging to me. Obviously it worked out, but still, its odd.

Are you sure?

Yikes, this is a really bad idea.

As I pointed out earlier... White Sox lead MLB with 36 Sacrafice Flys. Cubs are 26th with 22. That's 14 runs right there.

Cubs can't execute with a runner at third and less than 2 outs and it's extremely frustrating because it's an elementary part of the game! :x

And that's 5 walks from the Cub pitchers.

Fred, do you have stats on how the Cubs do when they walk more than their opponents? Does that ever happen? :)

why does this happen? is it that some guys cant perform under pressure? or is the ability just not there?

or both? :?

whatever the reason, its starting to get really old.

Does it seem like our relievers always perform poorly when they come in for a second inning (even if they only throw a few pitches previously)?

The Cubs are really choking lately.

Horrible team. I don't even want them in the playoffs almost, they'd choke big time.

This is just famine mode. Remember last week when we were crushing it out against Cincinnati and then sucked the last 2 games, with 1-2 exceptions, we've been in famine mode since. This has been happening for 2 years, feast, famine, feast, famine. You should be used to this by now.

Cubs are 1 and 0 when they walk more than their opponents.

Kidding.

Never calculated it that way. CUBS drew more walks than San Francisco on Tues & Wed.

Can't blame Dusty for losing this one. Absolutely no excuse for this offensive performance. None at all. The continued gutless performance of the hitters in crucial situations is unacceptable. Another complete disgrace to this point.

I hate to be rude and mean, but the Cubs REALLY suck as of late. I mean, its beyond the normal suckage. These are major league hitters that coulden't drive in RISP for their life.

Yeah, 12-5 in our last 17 games, we are REALLY choking.

And to add insult to injury, it's an ex-Cub who does it - funny huh? Gonzalez could have been our everyday LF for how many years now??

not watching, so let me guess. an off speed pitch on the outter third, hooked by Gonzalez out of the ballpark.

essentially the only pitch the guy can still drive, and that's where we keep pitching him.
