  1. I have a friend and his wife that were supposed to come in tow for this game but had to reshedule for July. I was hoping to trade someone the four bleachers for Saturday against STL for 4 bleachers against the Mets on Saturday July 15th. PM me or reply if interested. Sorry if this isnt posted in the right forum, I didnt see one for classifieds and the search function is disabled.
  2. There is no likelyhood that he will have to move positions. Why does age 31 equate to inability to play SS at the same level? Because history has shown us that middle infielders often have to switch, or risk turning into defensive question marks. He probably won't have to switch at 31, but by 32 or 33 the likelihood increases quite a bit. Ripken waited until he was 35, but wasn't any good in the field from 32-34. Banks moved at 31. Yount moved at 29/30. Larkin had a very tough time being an everyday SS in his 30s. Tony Fernandez went from an everyday SS in his 20s to a part time 3B, part time SS, part time 2B in his 30s. All time great middle infielders make their career in their 20's, and usually take a significant step back in their 30s. It's much easier for slugging first baseman and corner outfielders to age gracefully, the demand on the body isn't as great. I'm gonna have to disagree with you regarding Cal. While he may not have been as good as he was in his prime, only once did his fielding percent or range factor ever slip below league average (1994 at the age of 33 he had a rf or 4.04 vs a league average of 4.22). His move to 3rd had more to do with the aquisition of mike bordick than his inability to still play SS at a high level.
  3. Prior will win at LEAST 2 Cy's in Baltimore. At least. Leave it to Hendry to make the rotation a strength, then make it a glaring weakness at the expense of a 30 year old shortstop on the downturn. Am I the only one that is curious what Prior would do with Leo Mazzone as his pitching coach. I will be interested to see what Baltimores young staff does with that guru teaching them the force.
  4. I would love to see an OF with Church and Murton as the corners (or church in center in the future) , both young guys who are going to get on base. Plus with the power we have from our corner infielders, I dont feel as strong a need for power in the OF. Both he and Murton are gonna be cheap for a few years, next year move church to center, keep murton in left and throw some money at a slugging RF.... But we know nothing is gonna happen, especially for wood
  5. He got pissed when Brady Anderson sold his soul to the devil for 50 hr's
  6. you're kidding, right? there are 162 games in a ML season, correct? if you watch the team play everyday and assume that you can learn everything you need to know, you're naive. if you watched the marlins play 162 games in 2004 and watched them play 162 games in 2005, without having any access to statistics, you wouldn't know the difference between pierre 04 and pierre 05. the difference between a .275 hitter and a .300 hitter is like 1 hit a week, how in the bloody heck can you see that by ignoring stats? trusting only in outdated conventional wisdom is foolish. the world is not flat, nor is the earth the center of the universe, and put your torch and pitchfork down. "Do you know what the difference between hitting .250 and .300 is? That's 25 hits...25 hits in 500 at bats is 50 points...ok. There's 6 months in a season. That's about 25 weeks, that means if you get just one extra flair a week, just one. A gork, you get a ground ball, you get a ground ball with eyes! You get a dying quail, just one more dying quail a week and you're in Yankee Stadium."
  7. but a shortage of run support diminishes clemens...ok i get it now
  8. side note...am I the only person who thinks the qualifications for a quality start are too lax
  9. But that logic is flawed, in eight of Clemens starts he got ZERO runs of suport. I dont care how many shutout innings you throw simple rule, if your team doesnt score you CANT win.
  10. You're right. When I checked park factors a couple of weeks ago, Minute Maid was playing as a pitcher's park. It's not so now, so I stand corrected. Regardless, Carpenter has a 1.13 ERA at Minute Maid. Pettite and Oswalt both have better ERA's at Minute Maid than Clemens does. So it's not like it's some sort of miracle that Clemens is able to perform well at Minute Maid. As for him "bailing out", all I know is that twice within the last month or so, he's left a game when his team REALLY needed him. Carpenter hasn't. I have been following this thread for a little while now and there is a point that I dont think anyone has raised yet. When a pitcher throws for a team with a terrible offense he will almost always have fewer innings pitched because he will frequently be pulled for a pinch hitter. I dont have the numbers, but I am fairly confident that Roger has left most of his games this year in favor of a pinch hitter rather than a call to the bullpen. Cant blame the manager or the pitcher for that, if you have runners on after the fifth or sixth inning in a scoreless game and your pitcher is coming up who wouldnt hit for him? I would be curioust to see the number of time clemens and carp have left games for a pinch hitter vs a relief pitcher if anyone knows how/where to find them. Last month, he left a game with a bad back. Last weekend, he left a game with a hamstring problem. He's not being pulled for a pinch-hitter, typically. Clemens is averaging 101.7 pitches per game. Carpenter is averaging 98.8. Clemens is going as deep into a game as he can go. He's just not working as efficiently as Carpenter. On a sidenote: I think it's weird that some posters claim that Carpenter is being abused by Larussa, when Clemens is throwing more pitches, in fewer innings. Ok, that is two starts, they have made close to 30, I'm pretty certain that he didnt leave most games with injuries

  12. Regardless of the money he makes, Wood in the pen, set up or closer (ultimately closer) is what will make him the superstar we all thought he'd be. It is what it is. has he given up a run out of the pen yet?
  13. whether or not you like Kerry in the pen...he sure is dominaing when he is just just throwing an inning or two
  14. That's a good point... can we expect a lot of changes this off season? or is hendry gonna play the collapse to an overused bench, and injured starters? also, what kind of free agents are lined up for the off season? or is it too early to tell? http://www.mlb4u.com/teamfa.html Quite a few people on that list i would like Furcal BJ Ryan Giles AJ Burnett As role players either Tino, Millar or Olerud Hidalgo probably wont get great offers, wouldnt mind him as a 4th of with a chance to win the job if he was affordable.
  15. go figure, actually the time to go head first to 1st base and macias doesnt
  16. while I dont think that either edmonds of andre should be in the hall, I dont know what I think about the marquee player argument. I dont know that someone should be penalized for having great players on his team. Was Gerhig any worse because he was overshadowed by ruth for many years?
  17. please bunt and pinch hit for macias....
  18. as good a game as blanco is having I wouldnt mind seeing a pinch runner here Edit: Nevermind
  19. Is game center wrong or did nefi just bunt there?
  20. not only did we not score, but we essentially wasted our 1-5 batters that inning
  21. i really think I would rather have trenidad hubbard out there
  22. off topic rule question...the guy in the cube next to me has the sox game on and Everett (DH) just got tossed. Do they lose the dh now?
