Guess Bruce isn't that big a fan of Morgan:

•The Cubs get a pair of games on national TV this weekend, with Fox carrying Saturday afternoon’s game at St. Louis and ESPN picking up Sunday night’s game.

For my money, I much prefer the local telecasts, when I get a chance to catch them. Cubs announcers Len Kasper and Bob Brenly quickly have grown into one of the top duos in the game, and the production work of WGN and Comcast is much more suited to baseball than the dizzying array of gizmos and head-spinning camera cuts served up by Fox.

ESPN’s production is more respectful of baseball’s nuances, and you get the announcing team of Jon Miller and Joe Morgan.

I like Miller. Oh, I see I’m out of space to write anything more.

That's great. =D>

He sure was rather respectful of Joe Morgan in that article. Much nicer than I would have been. Oh, and I really like Jon Miller, also. How has he not reached both hands around Joe Morgan's throat and squeezed all the way to the funeral parlor by now is beyond me.

You have to admire Jon Miller's patience as well.

I like Bruce's article too but I'm going to go against the grain here because I do not like Jon Miller (much less Joe Morgan). I've lost a lot of respect for Miller because he seems to defer to Morgan's "expertise" too much for my taste. Plus, the only reason he is on that network is because of his connection as the voice of the Giants and obvious link to Bonds. Edited by Blueheart05

Outstanding article. We need to link that article from the FAQ.

I'm not sure if this is what you are referring to, but

here's the split thread from when Bruce had an impromptu discussion on July 8

To be fair, isn't the job of Miller to call the action, and then defer to the color guy (usually a former pro ballplayer) for his analysis of the play?

Jon Miller has been working ESPN Sunday Night Baseball since 1990 according to ESPN.com, which was when Bonds was still a Pirate. Furthermore, he has only been calling Giants games since 1997, before that he was the Orioles broadcaster.

Jon Miller, an award-winning broadcast veteran of more than 20 years, is the play-by-play commentator for ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball telecasts, a position he has held since 1990 when the series began. He has also called Division Series playoff games for the network from 1996 to 2000 and since 2003, as well as World Series games for ESPN Radio since 1998. In 2002, he worked ESPN-produced Division Series telecasts on ABC Family.

Miller is the radio and television voice of the San Francisco Giants (since 1997). From 1983 to 1996, he called Baltimore Orioles games for the WBAL Radio Network (also for WMAR-TV from 1991-93).

My only beef with Miller is the way he pronounces Perez. He says Pairez. While that may be the proper pronunciation, it drives me nuts. Unfortunately, there always seems to be a Perez playing in Miller's games. Neifi, Odalis, Oliver, Antonio, Timo, Eddie, Tomas, Yorkis, Eduardo, etc....

Bruce is easily the best Cubs beat writer. As a fellow journalist, I enjoy his work a lot. By the way, Bruce, if you're reading, I'd love to get you on my radio show sometime. There are a lot of Cubs fans down here as well as a lot of people who are Braves fans who hate the Cubs.

LOL BBB.. you can also add "Roadleegez" to the mix! Growing up in the Chicago area, I always pronounced hispanic names the way they look. But like you in San Diego, here in the San Antonio area it's (ugh) pronounced with the 'tongue rolling". I can't stand to watch the local news because of it.

And to Bruce. Great article!! Thanks for presenting the majority mindset from NSBB to the general public. In regards to Joe Morgan, how does ESPN keep this clown on the air??? I'm so sick of his "me, me, me" attitude.

There are indeed quite a few Cubbie faithful in the greater Mobile listening area. I'm sure I listen to your show...wnsp? morning or afternoon?

I don't think you can really rip on the guy for pronouncing Latin players' names correctly

Yeah, didn't Harry had trouble pronouncing some tough names awhile back? I remember him having a hard time pronouncing Hector's last name, along with several other Latin players as well.

This made me laugh because it reminded me of Les Nessman in WKRP in Cincinnati pronouncing Chi Chi Rodriguez's name. Probably no one else remembers that, but oh well.
