Your right, it is more than 5ft. I was looking at the second photo when after he was hit he backpedaled. Not 25 ft though. And really it doesn’t matter. He was hit. He would have been further back and been hit by a different trajectory of a ball. It was just a freak accident. As someone else said, players know the risk. They want to be as close as they can get.!

Last year Horton, this year Bregman, both kind of freak injuries, just complete nonsense.

So protect them from themselves.  If everyone has to stay on the circle, then nobody is gaining an advantage.

He wasn’t hit by a pitched ball. I don’t worry about him having the yips. But I don’t expect him to play for at least 2 to 3 weeks because of multiple fractures. As much as he is extremely determined to play, I can’t see it happening. And without him, I don’t think the Cubs enough to last 2 to 3 weeks without him.

My guess is the running and also sliding (even feet first) would be what could aggravate it the most of not fully healed.  Luckily he's a slow runner so that could help a bit lol.

Google says a minor or hairline fracture takes about 6-8 weeks to heal, but i imagine if he's able to swing and run he'll be out there.  I would be anyways lol.

Yeah we're effed.  I think he's likely out the first round at the very least, and maybe the 2nd round. Given how he's been hitting this is a massive blow.  He's been one of the best players in the MLB.

Guess its a matter of will a groundball to the face, or a hard tag on a slide, or anything that might draw contact to his face make it worst.

Once youre playing, especially in a playoff game,  you can't really go easy and try to avoid making certain plays or movements,  like sliding headfirst if you need to.

I don't get the same vibes. This feels like he ain't coming back.

He has legit skull fractures. Long term health of getting rattled again would be serious.

I hope it's pain management. My guess is it's beyond just that. And if there's anything beyond pain management, the Cubs will likely have to tell him no.

This is what I think as well. And, as I said, if he did come back it would be weeks away. Cubs don’t have weeks if he isn’t playing.

Yeah, the best case is that he's a DH. But even there, they'd have to do something to protect the face. And I'm not sure how you can both:
1. Protect that portion of his face well enough

While also:

2. Giving him enough vision that he can actually react to the type of stuff these guys will be throwing
