Phillies only have +37 run differential.  Cubs are up +100 run differential on them. It would be wild if we didn't get the top WC seed.  Either way, we're probably playing them the first round.  League's best hitting vs leagues best pitching would be fun.

Phillies lost, Cubs back to WC1

Padres up 7-1 over Giants so looking like they will stay 2.5 games behind the Cubs (3 in loss column)

Diamondbacks and Rangers tied at 1 midway through the game. 
 

In unrelated results, the White Sox swoon is continuing with a loss to the Cardinals. They are now just 1 game ahead of the Guardians for 1st place in the Central, and 1 game ahead of the Astros for a bye to the ALDS.  If they fall out of 1st they are still in decent shape for the playoffs as they’re 3 games ahead of Toronto for what would be WC3.  But going from a bye into the ALDS to a road WC series against the Yankees would certainly be a change in fortunes for them.

Rangers just aren't good, how the hell did the Cubs lose 2 of 3 to them?  Kelly is awful and they couldn't do more damage than 1 run.

Still don't believe the Diamondbacks are all that good, Rangers however, are terrible.  Thought the Cubs might be able to pick up a game on Diamondbacks, don't see the Rangers beating them.

Nothing compared to the Marlins (-57) and D Backs (-15) taking the final wild card seeds over the Cubs (+96) and padres (+104) back in 2023).

When we are talking hitting war are they talking the war of the Cubs line up as a whole, which includes defense, or just offense? In other words, maybe Happ is 1.3WAR offensively but overall WAR of 2.3. When we see the Cubs line up total of 35+, what number are they giving Happ? His strictly offense WAR or his total?

Like I said you can look at it your way and use the tie breaker or you can  play along with the whole magic number way of doing it.

It doesn't consider tie breakers, it just goes by how many games can be won by the non playoff teams.

So, the OP who posted 13, he was technically right in the spirit of using the magic number way of elimination.

Its 12 now, Cubs can win 6 in a row and Padres can lose 6 in a row and its over, and that SD AZ series and the tie breaker means nothing to the Cubs.

 

 

 

 

I get it. Just seems strange to me that it wouldn’t correct itself to take into account tie breakers. I mean different situation and there was only one spot available, if a combination of Cubs wins and Dbacks loses only totaled 12, the Cubs would win. I feel MLB should be able to figure that into the equation.
