Shota allowed only four single hits.  Pretty cool.  As I said, Shota with Amaya is better than Skenes.😄

Statement game for the whole team and Shota in particular.

Get an ace Jed. Feeling pretty confident with New Ace, Shota, Boyd, Peterson/Rea right now.

Job well done . Regardless I d what happens tomorrow , they did what needed to be done . Hopefully they can at least split the 4 in St Louis and let Jed get some pitching in the next 10 days

Yeah, I hear you, but Javy pitches only once a week, anyway.😁

Even against position players Seiya can't help himself with those type of strikeouts.

Maybe this was his day to throw a pen session so they just had him do it in the game? I read once that Bobby Cox and Leo Mazone used to do that with Braves pitchers when they got into September to keep the pen fresh

Shota's ERA with Amaya this year is 1.50 now.😃  He's our ace, when Miggy is catching.

Ian Happ is the most skilled LF i've ever seen in my life.  Throwing accuracy, getting rid of the ball quickly, cutting off angles.  He's a walking clinic and deserves those Gold Gloves.  Glad PCA gets to learn from him daily.

Do you know what the FIP differences are?  Still some sample size concerns but maybe there's something to this.  Hard to say but it wouldn't hurt for the Cubs to lean into the Miggy/Shota pairing.

No, I don't, but the FIP should be good with Amaya, because HR/9 is 0.75 and K/9 is 10.5.  With Kelly, ERA 4.87, HR/9 1.98 and K/9 7.38.  That's just this year, so yes, the sample size isn't big.  But, his career ERA with Amaya (a little over 200 innings) is 2.71.  With Kelly, its 4.37 (about 130 innings).

Huge to take the first 2 with the righty mashing Pirates set to face Taillon of all people.

Why is Pittsburgh throwing off speed stuff to PCA who clobbers breaking pitches with a pitching staff full of upper 90’s flame throwers?

Wait did Miggy ruin the cycle by being on the bases in front of PCA? 😂

100%. Rewatch the play and you'll see a bit of frustration on PCA's face as he looks over at Amaya. He totally wanted 3b on that hit and you can rest assured he was going to take it. PCA always wants the extra base.

I love how Shota always reps Cade Horton after his starts

I give him horsefeathers, but Shota is a really likable dude.

Pirates offense has been REALLY good this year too.  Outside of Ozuna who looks to be washed, their lineup has been hitting really well.  Second in the majors in runs scored.   Well done by Shota.

Pirates are also very split heavy with a  114 wRC+ versus righties and a 92 versus lefties. The rotation was lined up perfectly for the series. Getting those 2 wins in were huge with Taillon going today.

I will forever be grateful to Taillon for those two playoff starts last year...both big time step ups.

But there has been very little reason having seen all his starts this year to have any realistic expectation he can get back to that or even close.  If he gives up two early bombs today or some such, how many more starts can a team in a playoff race reasonable afford to keep trotting him out there?

We’re almost a week away from the trade deadline, if he gets shelled today, I can’t imagine he’s not DFAd by then.
