Cubs just called up James Triantos,  no corresponding move was mentioned.

Makes me wonder if Ramirez or Alcantara were traded, or if they just seen enough of Alcantara.

Triantos can play IF and OF

Feels like he’s been a prospect for fifteen years.

He put up pretty good numbers his whole time in the system and made it to Iowa quickly,  dont know why he never got an opportunity til now.

Didn't this kid hit like .700 in his senior yr of HS? Its too bad he hasn't developed a disciplined approach yet. My expectations- even though he will probably hardly play - are super low.

What are you referring to with his discipline approach?

If it Ks, he only has 308 Ks in 2318 minor league AB, 13.29 K rate.

He's a case of, makes too much contact. Yeah he doesn't K a lot, but he also makes a lot of bad contact on pitches he should just let go.

He swings too much and makes contact with a lot of pitches that he shouldn't. Extremely low walk rate.

You really should start delving into fangraphs someday.

Triantos' star has dimmed but he's still a legit prospect.  Probably tracking towards more of a bench role than a starters role, but at the same time he's just 23 so don't say that with too much certainty.

The big question is why now?  Is this about swapping him and Alcantara?  Is there an injury?  A trade?

My guess is that they are swapping Alcantara , who looks overmatched tbh .  Maybe they like Triantos ability to put the bat on the ball better for a bench role .

This was my thought, too.  I didn't see this coming.

I know people think it's an Alcantara swap, but it doesn't really make sense. Alcantara has been used as the RHH compliment in the OF off the bench. Pedro Ramirez is a good deal better against RHP and this year Triantos has a sub .300 wOBA against lefties, too. Maybe they just want to get him work in Iowa and don't mind if Triantos is here to be here and hang out, but it'd be a weird swap on paper in terms of why Alcantara was here to begin with.

I'd guess Ramirez injury or trade, with a lean towards the former. He had that awkward swing and we haven't seen him since.

Yesterday the Cubs also signed a speedy INF/OF and put them in Iowa.  Can't remember their name.

Greg Jones. The Brewers thought enough of him to pick him up before us, so he's probably going to be a complete stud for years to come in a Cubs jersey.

Ok, I kinda thought that what you were referring to as his walks were pretty low.

Hes kind of like Castro was in that way

I would not be surprised if hes seen a major uptick in changeups just less fastballs overall. MLB exposed his over-eagerness pretty good.
