Who are the three targets you want to see on the Cubs come August 4th? This can be however you want to view the trade deadline: modest pick-ups, a reasonable push, an unreasonable emptying of the farm, however YOU view the deadline.

I'm hoping for a controllable starter, but unfortunately the ones who have the right combo of oomf and control I want are Brown, Detmers and Webb. and those orgs can't be counted on to act rationally.

If we have to settle on a rental SP I'm okay being a little more prospective.  I think buying a little low on Gausman would be smart, I think buying a lot low on Peralta would be smart.  I think buying low on Bieber is risky but might be smart?  I know people would screech at another 92 MPH lefty but Foster Griffin isn't slowing down at all?

I don't get too attached to specific relievers, but Luke Weaver feels like the goldilocks solution.  I probably would ultimately say no but at the moment I'm more amenable to a Miller or a Hader than I'd typically be, especially if we settle for a rental SP.

I'd love for the team to try and get creative in addition to shopping for name brands.  The Tigers have this guy Drew Anderson who quietly has been a weapon in long relief after coming back over from the KBO.  The Orioles have this rando named Rico Garcia who is literally leading the league in in-zone contact rate.  Add someone who the nerds in the pitch lab are gaga over even if it takes us civilians some research to figure out what his deal is.  

My ideal deadline is probably Detmers, Weaver, and a really tough right on right reliever like Jonathan Loaisiga.  But mainly I just need quality innings and some 2027 shopping done early.

I've wanted Mize and Morejon in the past and both would be huge gets and not require a king's ransom. I just don't know if we're gonna find a controllable starter at this deadline.

I'm not attached to any specific names. Mike Soroka wouldn't have been anybody's top 3 choice last year -- but if he'd stayed healthy and done what he did for Arizona this season, we'd have been thrilled with the add.

I just want three good healthy arms. One rotation, one bullpen. I don't care where the third one goes.

We're dealing with small samples the rest of the season. It's entirely possible for a #3-4 guy type to outgun a Skubal the rest of the way. No sense in blowing up the farm for any of the arms I see on the market. Just grab the cheapest reasonable options and hope they're pumped to be in a playoff race.

I don't want rentals, I want players that are in control with the team for a good bit. This team isn't good enough for rentals to make a change.

Yeah I would also like the second best hitter in baseball and a certified ace with 2.5 years of cheap control. Can we also get Misierowski while we're at it? We probably need more than one pitcher.

Based on what they have done so far, I don't think the front office is convinced this team is worth spending more to improve it. Recent additions cost little more than some bats and balls.

It takes two sides to dance. Notice how no trades of consequences across the league have been completed? By this logic, all 30 teams are perfectly fine with their situation and no team is looking to sell anyone or improve. 

We're at the leadup to the deadline where players like Aaron Civale and Seth Halvorsen are available for okay prices but many teams have to be pushed off their position until they get closer to August 3rd.

The Cubs won't trade for Skubal, and they might not pay top-dollar, but I'd be surprised if they didn't make a few trades to improve the team.
