It's a good question, though 2/12 is way less problematic than Dayo's contract

Seems like the plan is to plug existing roster holes with cheap and unspectacular options, allowing them to truly go BPA in the draft. Hopefully they'll make at least one big impact signing...

Not what I wanted them to do after the breakout last year. I was hoping Poles would do a few more restructures and go for it, but I guess not yet

Edit: typo

Heard the Bears are favorites to sign Mike Evans. Source, my friend that listens to too much sports talk radio so take it for what it’s worth, which probably isn’t much. I’d love that, though.

So the Bears have basically forced themselves to have to use one of their first two picks on an EDGE now, There's no way they can afford Hendricksen now.

FWIW Matt Lombardo reported this weekend that Evans is firmly in the wants to play for a contender is willing to leave some money on the table stage of his career.  So this probably isn't completely off base.

I truly cannot stand that the Bears just refuse to address EDGE with anything but half measures. It has been a need for years and they just throw mediocrity at it and hope for the best.

Maybe that was their plan all along. You were pretty miserable throughout the Cubs offseason too. 2 hours into NFL FA - lets chill out. Its a collaborative effort. The coaches get some players they like for their scheme and that fit the budget they have tried to set. If they get a rotational DT for 2/12 I think it can be seen as a win.

The problem is there is, at best, half of the FA budget left, any other big splash is going to have to happen via trade unless something really unforeseen happens. They're going to shoehorn themselves into drafting a DE at 25 or 57 regardless of BPA.

Not that it was ever likely to sign one of them, but with Etienne now signed to the Saints, Walker to KC and Hall getting Franchised by the Jets, it's almost assured Swift is your starting RB next year.

Bullet dodged

Indeed, still find it hard to believe someone was dumb/desperate enough to give up 2 firsts for Crosby.
