Cap hit of $13 million next year and a dead cap hit of $17 million. Yes, they need to have a replacement (Wright?), but the bad contracts and lack of production are starting to pile up (Dayo, DJ, Gordon). 3 of the Bears top 9 paid players are either injured or not playing well.

It's not as if Gordon was a big loss this season, hard to be when he's played 12 quarters.  They've effectively played the whole season without him, why change?

Mike Brown contributed to us 10xs what Gordon has. Had Brown been healthy, I feel like 070204 would have been very different.

And Gordon has contributed a lot more to the defense than Terrell ever did offensively. I was not comparing the contributions on the field, just their inability  to stay healthy.

DJ is a bad investment too. Whether he’s at all to blame for the lack of production they have Rome Loveland and burden on rookie deals. Can’t upgrade the defense with his $28 million cap hit next season. Too many mouths to feed for a qb who struggles with accuracy.

DJ has had 1,000+ yard receiving seasons with multiple QBs. I don’t think it’s him. There are a lot of skilled targets on this team. From what I’ve seen and heard, DJ is open plenty of time and he is the #1 target on a lot of pass plays. For whatever reason, Caleb is not getting him the ball. And the amount of money he’s getting for this level of production just can’t happen. Maybe the Bears can trade him for a position of need and take someone else’s bad contract with tons of dead cap money. But the risk is that Rome or Burden gets hurt next year and now you need a skilled receiver who would get more targets.

I’m not at all blaming DJ. There’s a disconnect between Caleb and DJ and no matter how much seperation DJ gets there hasn’t been a return on the investment no matter who’s at fault. There shouldn’t be a need for any either drafting 2 pass catchers in top 10 plus Burden at 39. 

I didn’t have a problem with the thinking behind the extension.

I’m with you. I thought it was a great signing and maybe it still can be.

I keep hearing that it’s close. But it’s just not and in it’s almost entirely on Caleb. The line is great, the running game is great, the skilled position players are great, and the coaching staff is great. But Caleb is not great.
